Michael Stanley Myers and his wife, Robyn (married 11/5/94), have a daughter, Laryssa (12/22/00), and two sons, Christian (2/13/96) and Daryl (10/7/97)...graduated from Crystal Lake (IL) Central High School, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and soccer...attended Iowa State University (1988-90) and earned 1989 All-Big Eight honors in baseball...helped Team USA win a Silver Medal in the 1989 IBA Presidential Cup in Taiwan...earned a Gold Medal with Team USA at the 1987 U.S. Olympic Festival...contributed funds to build a youth field in Steamboat Springs, CO in 2000...was selected to play with the Major League All-Stars in both 2000 and 2006 as part of the "Japan All-Star Series."

Led the N.L.with 23 relief holds...control was an issue as he walked 22 men in 50.0 innings, a 3.96 per 9-inning ratio...he surrendered only 1 earned run from Opening Day to May 20, spanning 16.2 innings... he had a better stretch from May 26--July 16, working 22 games without allowing an earned run...Myers had a 0.58 ERA at the All-Star break, but posted a 6.16 mark afterwards.

His 88 games were 2 shy of the A.L.appearance record while establishing a Tiger club record for the second straight season, bettering his 83 in 1996... Mike's 88 games were 10 more than any A.L. hurler.

Myers made 83 appearances to break the Detroit record set in 1984 when Willie Hernandez worked in 80 games for the World Champions...Mike also set a major league rookie appearance record, 3 more than Mitch Williams with Texas in 1986.

Myers pitched for 4 teams in 4 leagues, including big league action with Florida and Detroit...he made Florida's Opening Day roster and made his big league debut in the April 25 opener, tossing a shutout inning against the Dodgers...he was optioned to Charlotte (AAA) May 6, and pitched there until the Tigers acquired him on Aug. 8 as the player-to-be-named in the Buddy Groom trade...Mike made 11 relief appearances for Detroit, including his first major league win, Sept.19 vs. Baltimore.
