Was 5-3 in 17 games, 16 starts with an ERA of 3.16 for
Toronto... Was optioned to Dunedin of the Florida State
League (A) on March 28 to re-build his delivery... Was
transferred to Tennessee of the Southern League (AA) and
made his debut with the Smokies on May 26 in the starting
rotation...Promoted to Syracuse of the International League
(AAA) where he made two starts... Combined between the
three minor league clubs was 3-2-2 with an ERA of 2.93
(70.2IP, 65H, 23ER, 57K)... Was recalled to Toronto on July
1... Inserted into the rotation on July 7 vs. Montreal and
struck out a then career high 10 batters while recording a
no-decision after 6.0 innings of work... Win #1 came on August
1 vs. Minnesota in his fifth start, was his first win since
July 16, 2000 vs. NY Mets... Finished the season tossing a
two hit shutout on October 5, in the first game of a
doubleheader against Cleveland.

Split the season between Toronto and Syracuse of
the International League (AAA)... Opened the season in Toronto's
starting rotation... Won his season debut on April 4
vs. KC... Was optioned to Syracuse on May 16... Was recalled
to Toronto on June 24... Inserted back into the starting
rotation and won his first start, 6-4 vs. Boston on June
24... Was optioned to Syracuse (AAA) Aug. 4... Re-called
to Toronto on September 5.
1999
Earned first professional save in season debut on
April 7 at Minnesota (90th pro game)... On May 20 vs. Detroit
became the third youngest pitcher in club history, at 22
years- six days, to throw a shutout, was his second career
complete game... Youngest was Phil Huffman at 21 yrs, two
months and seven days on August 27, 1979.
1998
Pitched for the Syracuse SkyChiefs of the International
League (AAA) and Toronto... Disabled from May 15 to
June 17 with a right shoulder strain... Made hisMLdebut as
a starter in Tampa Bay on Sept. 20, ND in a 7-5 win (5.0IP,
8H, 3R, 2ER, 1HR, 2BB, 5K)...Struck out the first batter he
faced, Randy Winn... At 21 years, 130 days he became the
third youngest pitcher to ever start for the Blue Jays and became
the 15th pitcher to make his ML debut as starter for
Toronto... First ML win and complete game on September
27 starting the final game of the season at home against Detroit
- took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before a two out
pinch hit solo HRby Bobby Higginson... Pitched 9.0 innings
allowing one hit, the homerun, with eight strikeouts, walked
none and threw just 94 pitches, 73 strikes... Rated by Baseball
America as the top prospect in the organization for the
third straight season and the third best prospect in the
International League.
1997
was 2-3 with a 5.40 ERA... Promoted to Syracuse
where he became the youngest pitcher in the
league...Rated fifth top prospect in the International
League by Baseball America, who also recognized him for
having the best fastball in the IL and the top prospect in the
organization.
1996
Led the Blue Jays minor leagues in wins as he was
15-7 and captured the R. Howard Webster Award (MVP) in
Dunedin... Tied for second in the Florida State League in
wins and shutouts (2) and was fifth in the loop in ERA at
2.73... Named Dunedin Pitcher of the Month in June and
July... In July was the organizational Pitcher of the Month,
4-1 with a 1.29 ERA... Named to both the All-Star Game and
the All-Star Team... Selected to the Howe Sportsdata
All-Teen Team...Rated the top prospect in the organization
by Baseball America and the third best in the Florida State
League.
1995
Combined on a shutout of the Gulf Coast Astros in his
last start on August 25 (8 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 3 SO) to earn Gulf
Coast League Pitcher-of-the-Week honours.
