Michael Warren Maroth (pronounced mah-ROTH)...wife Brooke...sons Nolan (10/23/03) and Tate (11/25/05), Kettie (10/12/09)...1995 graduate of Boone High School (Orlando, Fla.)...was district MVP and Player of the Year in 1995 and participated in the All-Star Game...attended the Universtiy of Central Florida for three years (1995-98) majoring in business administration...went 4-4 with a 4.73 ERA and three saves in 24 appearances as a sophomore...went 3-3, with a 4.09 ERA in 13 games as a Junior in 1998...pitched with Staunton in the Shenandoah Valley League during the summer of 1996, going 1-2 with a 2.43 ERA and three saves in 15 games.
2009
Spent Spring Training with the Toronto Blue Jays...suffered a season-ending knee injury two days into workouts and did not pitch in an official Minor League or Major League game...underwent surgery in April to repair the torn ligament in his knee...pitched in the Puerto Rican Winter Leagues in December and January of 2010 with Indios de Mayaguez, going 2-0, 2.57 (28.0 IP, 8 ER) in seven games (five starts).

Rookie rode a solid beginning to the 2002 season at Triple A Toledo to secure a spot in the Tigers starting rotation on June 8...Fifth among American League rookies with 128.2 innings pitched...tied for eighth with his six wins...was seventh among AL rookies with his 4.48 ERA...Fared well at Comerica Park, posting a 5-4 record and 3.18 ERA (76.1IP/27ER)...was 1-6 with a 6.36 ERA (52.1IP/37ER) on the road...When added to the starting rotation on June 8, it marked the first time the Tigers had two lefties in the starting rotation since the 1997 season...Maroth and Mark Redman were the first pair of lefthanders for Detroit since Glenn Dishman joined Justin Thompson in the rotation in August of 1997...Did not figure in the decision in his major league debut on June 8 versus Philadelphia after the bullpen blew a 1-0 lead in the eighth inning...worked seven shutout innings, allowing seven hits while walking two batters and fanning one...Outdueled Arizona's Curt Schilling in a 6-3 win on June 14 at Bank One Ballpark for his first career win...was perfect through the first four innings and faced the minimum through six innings...allowed three runs on five hits in eight innings -- two of the three runs coming in the eighth inning.
