Displayed his character and ability in return to Giants, appearing on Major League mound 14 months afer undergoing "Tommy John" surgery...had contract purchased from triple-A Fresno Aug. 27, and pitched 1.0-perfect inning Aug. 29 vs. Colorado...effort vs. Rockies marked 1st big league appearance since June 12, 2006 (at Detroit, with Tampa Bay)...dominated in late-inning role with Giants, going 2-0 with 1.26 ERA in 15 outings (including 14-scoreless efforts)...launched comeback in June with 10-game stint at single-A San Jose, posting 3 saves and 1.74 ERA...moved to Fresno in July, going 1-2 with 7 saves and 4.20 ERA...recorded save in each of final 7 outings with Grizzlies, posting 1.23 ERA (1er, 7.1ip).

Struggled with Giants out of gates, but righted ship with Tampa Bay before suffering season-ending elbow injury...went 0-1 in 6 outings with SF, while being touched for 15.19 ERA...was designated for assignment April 23, and dealt to Devil Rays April 28 in exchange for minor league RHP Carlos Hines...was 10-for-14 in save opportunities during 1st career stint in AL, going 1-3 with 4.95 ERA in 20 outings...converted 9-straight save chances May 5-June 5, 4 of which required more than 1.0-inning effort...forged 2.63 ERA (4er, 13.2ip) over 13 May outings...lone junior circuit win came May 19 over Marlins, working top of 10th before TB won on walk-off HR...worked 2.0 innings June 12 at Detroit in last appearance of season...landed on DL June 14 with right elbow strain...underwent season-ending "Tommy John" surgery on elbow July 6, procedure performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, AL.

Hard-throwing right-hander was godsend to SF bullpen, stepping into closer's role following April disablement of Armando Benitez...despite not assuming full-time stopper duties until May 12, and although he himself was disabled Aug. 20-Sept. 7, still ranked 10th in NL Rolaids Relief Man standings with 66 points...went 6-4 with 23 saves (in 28 opportunities), becoming 10th Giants pitcher to post 20 rescues in single season...beginning with save May 12 at Houston through Aug. 20, was tied for 7th in senior circuit with 21 saves...also logged rescue earlier in campaign, then posted 23rd save Sept. 23 at Colorado...in 28 save opportunities overall, fashioned 3.25 ERA (10er, 27.0ip) with .216 avg. against (22-for-102)...was placed on 15-day Disabled List prior to Aug. 20 contest with right shoulder inflammation...was activated Sept. 7, and was dominant down stretch...tossed 8.0-scoreless innings over his final 11 outings, going 3-0 with save and .207 avg. against (6-for-29)...had historic save June 17 in Detroit...according to Elias Sports Bureau, became 1st reliever since save rule was instituted in 1969 to record save by entering with bases loaded and subsequently striking out side without allowing run to score...fanned Ivan Rodriguez, Craig Monroe and Chris Shelton in succession to preserve Jason Schmidt's 4-0 victory...provided fitting final tribute to Robb Nen on day honoring former SF closer July 9, tossing perfect 9th to shut door on 2-0 Giants victory over Cardinals.

Rookie hurler performed admirably, helping solidify bullpen for boyhood club...originally non-roster invitee to Spring Training, spent bulk of year in majors for 1st time after Giants purchased his contract from triple-A Fresno April 28...fashioned 5-1 mark with save and 4.24 ERA for SF, appearing in 52 games in relief...5 wins and 52 appearances both tied for 8th among National League rookie hurlers...was particularly effective following All-Star Break, posting 3.51 ERA (13er,33.1ip) in 25 2nd half outings...yielded 5.04 mark (17er, 30.1ip) in 27 efforts prior to Mid-Summer Classic...in fact, fashioned 1.93 ERA (3er, 14.0ip) over his final 11 efforts as SF battled for playoff spot...with Giants debut April 28 vs. Braves, became 9th San Francisco native to see ML action with Giants...retired both Atlanta batters faced that night as SF completed 3-game sweep with 10-7 victory...in fact, opened Giants career by retiring 19 of his 1st 23 batters faced over 7.0-scoreless innings (5 games)...4 of his 5 wins came during initial 11 SF outings...garnered 1st win in impressive fashion, blanking Florida over 3.0 innings while allowing just 1 single and facing minimum 9 batters...silenced Marlins offense that had scored 9 runs in 1st 2 innings, paving way for 12-9 Giants triumph...earned 1st big league save June 13 at Baltimore, stranding 2 runners in 8th with SF leading 6-3 before tossing perfect 9th...opened year with triple-A Fresno, logging 1-1 mark with 1.72 ERA (3er, 15.2ip) in 9 games (1 start) with Grizzlies.

Was in Mets' Spring Training camp as part of 40-man roster, but was designated for assignment March 29 and later placed on waivers...claimed by Detroit April 3 and spent remainder of campaign with triple-A Toledo...was mainstay of Mud Hens' rotation, finishing 2nd on staff with 22 starts...in 26 appearances overall, went 2-9 with 4.45 ERA (65er, 131.1ip).

2002

Logged pair of stints with Mets, while spending majority of season with triple-A Norfolk...was recalled July 2 and made ML debut that night at Philadelphia, working 1.0 inning of relief...was optioned back to Norfolk July 5, but returned to majors for good with Sept. 2 recall...made 1st big league start and earned 1st ML victory Sept. 7 at Philadelphia...worked 5.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits as Mets won 5-4...pitched in 5 games for New York overall, logging 5.91 ERA (7er, 10.2ip)...had solid minor league campaign, going 10-5 with 3.99 ERA (63er, 142.0ip) in 28 games (25 starts) for Tides.

Spent majority of campaign with Binghamton, finishing 3rd in Eastern League with 2.75 ERA (37er, 121.0ip)...went 7-6 in 22 starts at double-A level, holding opposition to .191 avg. against (82-for-430)...made triple-A debut at end of season, going 1-3 with 2.39 ERA (7er, 26.1ip) in 5 starts for Norfolk.

1999

Named to Florida State League's mid-season All-Star team while with St. Lucie...was 6-5 with 2.94 ERA (26er, 79.2ip) in 13 starts, earning promotion to Binghamton June 20...posted 6-4 mark with 6.22 ERA (47er, 68.0ip) in 13 starts thereafter.

1998

Worked in career-high 34 games, including 13 starts, for single-A Columbia...was 5-5 with 4.12 ERA (53er, 115.2ip)...helped club to South Atlantic League title with dominant performance in Game 2 of circuit's championship series, striking out 16 batters while working 7.0-innings of 1-hit, shutout ball against Greensboro.
