For a third-straight season, had his season cut short due to injury. Began the season on the disabled list recovering from left shoulder surgery performed in May 2013...Made two rehab starts before being activated: a shortened rehab start in Springfield (AA) on 5/4 (2.0 IP, 2R), coming out of the game after being hit by pitch on his left elbow while batting in the 2nd inning, and Memphis (AAA) on 5/12 (5.0 IP, 2R, 5K)...Made his first Major League start since 5/17/13 on 5/18 vs. ATL. Allowed 4 runs in 7.0 IP and was in line for the win upon his exit, but Cards lost 6-5 when ATL scored in the 9th...Earned his 1st win of 2014, his 40th career win and the 10th win of his career over the Reds at CIN on 5/24, a 6-3 victory...Did not walk a batter in his first four starts (24.2 IP), 5/18-6/3...Blanked the Blue Jays over 7.0 IP on 6/8 at Rogers Centre, allowing just 3 hits in the 5-0 win and followed that with 7.0 IP vs. WSH allowing just one run on five hits - his final two wins on the year...Placed on the 15-day disabled list on 6/21 with left shoulder inflammation and was transferred to the 60-day on 7/11, missing the remainder of the season...Had neurogenic thoracic outlet surgery on 7/11 performed by Dr. Robert Thompson in St. Louis.

2013

Made nine starts in April and May before ending up on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain on May 18... Missed the remainder of the season (121 games)... Had surgery to repair labrum and rotator cuff in late May that was performed by Dr. George Paletta... Pitched the 4/8 home opener vs. CIN and tied his career-high with 10 strikeouts... Threw a season-high 8.0 innings in back-to-back starts 4/30 vs. CIN and 5/5 at MIL, allowing a single run in both wins.

2012

Saw his season shortened with shoulder issues, making 20 starts surrounding his D.L. stint. Made 11 starts before being placed on the disabled list on 6/6 (left shoulder strain). Was 3-4 with a 4.48 ERA in those starts. Missed 64 games while on the D.L. and made four rehab starts: one at High-A Palm Beach, two at Double-A Springfield and a final rehab start at Triple-A Memphis. Activated off the disabled list on 8/19. Made nine starts to close out the year and went 4-3 with a 3.25 ERA. Ranked T11th in the NL with 17 double plays induced. Induced double plays at a rate of 1.26/9 IP, which would have ranked 1st in the N.L. with the necessary innings needed to qualify. Was 4-2, 2.82 in nine starts at Busch, with none less than 5.2 IP and went 3-5, 5.02 in 11 road starts. Ranked 1st in the National League with 1.53GDP/9 IP during September and 8th in N.L.ERA(2.45)for the month. Also had a sub 3.00 ERA in April(2.78). His 10 hits and .250 BA paced St. Louis pitchers. Recorded four sac hits on the year, three coming in one game: 9/4 vs. NYM. Was first Cards pitcher since Adam Wainwright in 2009 to have a single, double, triple and homer in the same season. Struck out a career-high 10 batters vs. PIT on 8/19 in his first start after returning from the D.L. Threw a season-high 8.0 innings allowing two unearned runs. Was leading the Texas League with 97 strikeouts and his 3.75 ERA was 10th-lowest in the league at the time of his shut down. Issued 45 walks, second-most in the league at the time of being sidelined. Fanned six-or-more batters in 10 of 18 starts, including seven of his last eight. Won two of his last three starts (2-1, 1.80 ERA, 20.0 IP/4 ER, 9 BB, 18 SO). Limited opponents to a .203 (12-59) batting average with runners on and two outs and a .200 (8-40) batting average with runners in scoring position and two outs. Pitched a scoreless inning at the Texas League All-Star Game on 6/26, allowing two hits while fanning one. Rated as the fourth-best Cardinals prospect by Baseball America.

2006
