Was acquired by Oakland on May 15 for minor league outfielder Jake Goebbert and minor league pitcher Ronald Herrera...Was placed on 15-day DL on June 24 with a left calf strain and played just seven games on his rehab assignment before being transferred to the 60-day disabled list on August 24 due to left Achilles tendinitis.
2013
Began the season with Triple-A Tucson before being called up on April 14…set career-highs in games played (88), hits (68), runs scored (31), doubles (14), RBI (35) and walks (21) in 2013...Over his first 40 games with the Padres from April 14 - June 9, hit .298 (34-for-114) with seven doubles, six home runs, 21 RBI, 18 runs scored, a .383 on-base percentage and a .518 slugging percentage...Placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 12 with left Achilles tendinitis…played in four games on a rehabilitation assignment in August with Triple-A Tucson before being reinstated on August 31...Made a career-high 71 starts with SD going 38-33 (.535) in his starts…33 in RF, 21 at 1B, 16 in LF and one as the DH...On June 24 vs. Philadelphia, collected a career-high four hits, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run, including a two-run single with no outs in the ninth to bring the Padres within one run before scoring the game-tying run on a passed ball from third base...also had the game-ending RBI single in the 10th inning to give the Padres a 4-3 victory, his second career walk-off hit (also home run on August 17, 2009 vs. Chicago-NL)...Had a career-best eight-game hit streak from June 3-10 (.400, 12-for-30)…with RISP, he hit .329 (24-for-73).
2012
Played in just four games for the Padres before being
placed on the disabled list on 4/14 with a strained left shoulder,
missing the remainder of the season.
Underwent surgery on his left shoulder on 4/24 and was transferred
to the 60-day DL on 5/2.
On Opening Day roster for third time in his career(also, 2010-11).
Hit .325 (13-for-40) with three doubles, one home run, three RBI
and eight runs scored in 15 games during Spring Training.
2011
2011: Split his season between Double-A San Antonio, Triple-A Tucson and the Padres after recovering from Tommy John surgery that cut his 2010 campaign short ... Started the season on the disabled list...was removed and immediately optioned to San Antonio on 4/26...played in 44 games for the Missions before being promoted to Tucson (35 games) and ultimately to the Padres on 7/22 ... Spent the rest of the season in the Majors, making 45 starts between the outfield (35) and first base (10).
... Set career highs in games, hits and RBI for San Diego.
... Belted his first career grand slam and tallied a career-high-tying five RBI 8/6 at PIT...grand slam marked his second consecutive game with a home run (8/5), a feat he accomplished twice in 2011 (8/19-20) ...
