Full name is Marcus Walter Walden...Attended Fresno City College in 2007 after graduating from Central High School in Fresno, CA...Married his wife, Nichole, in November 2013...The couple has 3 children: Sutton, Palmer and Cash. Has been nicknamed “Waldo” since childhood.

2020

Allowed a combined 9 ER in 1.0 IP in his outings on 8/13 vs. TB and 8/18 vs. PHI...In his other 13 appearances, gave up 5 ER in 12.1 IP (3.65 ERA)…Made seven scoreless appearances...Was optioned to the Alternate Training Site on 8/19 and recalled on 9/3... Earned his lone save of the season on 9/8 at PHI-G2... Entered the bottom of the 7th inning with one out, runners on 1st and 2nd, and a 5-2 lead...Retired both batters faced.

2019

Appeared in a career-high 70 games for BOS despite beginning the year with Triple-A Pawtucket. Set a Red Sox rookie record for appearances in a single season (previous: 66 by Hideki Okajima in 2007). His 70 appearances were T-10th in the AL and T-2nd on the Sox' staff with Matt Barnes (Brandon Workman - 73). Finished 9th in the AL with 78.0 relief innings, the most by a BOS pitcher since 2012 (Alfredo Aceves - 84.0). Ranked 2nd in the AL with 9 relief wins. Held opponents to a .213 AVG (61-for-287), including a .186 mark (21-for-113) after the All-Star break. Stranded 25 of his 37 inherited runners...Among Red Sox, only Colten Brewer had more inherited runners (38). Pitched more than 1.0 inning 19 times, including 2.0+ innings 11 times. Recorded 2 saves for BOS (5/26 at HOU, 7/23 at TB).

2019 Season Timeline:

Began the year with the PawSox and made his lone appearance on 4/4 at Syracuse...Recalled by BOS on 4/6. Earned the 1st win of his ML career in his season debut on 4/7 at ARI, a 1-0 Sox victory (2.0 IP). Struck out a career-high 5 batters on 4/15 vs. BAL. Optioned to Pawtucket post-game on 4/15...Was recalled again on 4/18 and remained with BOS. From 4/20-6/4, posted a 1.44 ERA (4 ER/25.0 IP) with
25 SO over 17 games...That stretch included a careerbest 9.1-inning scoreless streak from 4/20-5/5. Did not allow a hit to 31 consecutive batters faced, which spanned parts of 9 games between 7/28-8/12. In 25 appearances from 7/15-9/6, posted a 2.13 ERA and held opponents to a .123 AVG (25.1 IP, 10 H, 6 ER).

Allowed 5 ER in 0.1 IP on 6/25 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and 7 ER in 0.2 IP on 8/18 at Columbus, but posted a 2.92 ERA (34 ER/104.2 IP) in his other 27 outings. Surrendered only 4 HR (0.34 HR/9.0 IP). Posted a 3.21 ERA (26 ER/73.0 IP) as a starter. Held LHH to a .239 AVG (52-for-218) and a .607 OPS. Made 5 relief appearances of 3.0+ innings. In 8 of his outings, allowed 1 or 0 runs and pitched at least 5.0 innings. Through 6/11, was 6-2 with a 2.01 ERA and a .213 opponent AVG (49.1 IP, 11 ER, 38-for-178). Held LHH to a .173 AVG and a .227 SLG (13-for-75, 4 2B)...Opponents hit .213 against him overall. Transferred to Rochester on 4/24...Allowed only 4 hits and 0 runs in 13.1 IP over 11 appearances from 6/14- 7/14...On the 7-day disabled list from 8/8-9/6...Made his last appearance of the season on 7/31. Following the season, appeared in 2 games (1 GS) for Aragua of the Venezuelan Winter League (9.0 IP, 2 H, R)... Pitched 4.0 scoreless innings of relief on 12/3 vs. Margarita, allowing only 1 hit and walking none...Allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 5.0 IP in a start on 12/9 at Magallanes.

2013

Made a career-high 26 starts for New Hampshire posting a 3.71 ERA...Led the Eastern League with 162.1 innings pitched...Selected to the Eastern League All-Star Game…Tossed a scoreless inning recording one strikeout...Was named the Minor League Player of the Week, May 13-19...Threw a complete game, nine-inning shutout June 23… Allowed just three hits while striking out five…Marked his first professional complete game shutout.

2012

Split the season between Lansing Lugnuts and Dunedin Blue Jays...Made 14 starts for the Lugnuts , posting a 3.11 ERA and a.229 opponents average before his promotion...Went 9-2, with a 2.85 ERA in 72.2 innings pitched for Dunedin…Held opponents to a .216 batting average in 13 games…Did not allow a home run while with the Blue Jays...Led all organizational pitchers with 14 wins…The 14 victories marked a career-high.

2011

Missed the first month of the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery...Assigned to the Lansing Lugnuts (A)…Made his first appearance in over two years on May 4 tossing 1.2 scoreless innings in relief...Threw 100.0 innings over 28 games (13 starts)...Following the All-Star break posted a 2.84 ERA compared to a 4.15 ERA prior to the break...In 13 game starts had a 2.60 ERA and a 3-4 record…Finished with a 3-2 record and a 4.46 ERA as a reliever.

2010

Underwent Tommy John surgery in March…Did not pitch all season.

2009

Appeared in just four games before injuring his elbow April 28…Elected to rehab his elbow rather than have surgery.

2008

Spent the season with Auburn Doubledays appearing in 14 contests (11 starts)...Had a 2-3 record with a 4.80 ERA in 60.0 innings pitched...Held right-handed hitters to a .248 average with lefties hitting .351 against him.

2007

Began his first professional season with the GCL Blue Jays (Rk)..Appeared in 12 games (10 starts) for the Blue Jays finishing the year with 44.1 innings pitched and a 3.05 ERA...Over 20.0 innings in August allowed just one earned run (0.45 ERA)…Surrendered 14 earned runs over his previous 24.1 innings pitched (5.18 ERA).
