Full name is Jorge Mario Alfaro. Spends much of his offseasons in Colombia. Played baseball and soccer at Instituto Técnico Industrial Antonio Prieto, graduating in 2009. His younger brother, Jhoandro, spent five seasons in the White Sox Minor League system (2015-19).

Had an .842 OPS in 36 road games (35-for-114, 4 HR) and a .524 OPS in 46 home games (28-for-142, 3 HR). In June, hit .309 with a .935 OPS (18 G, 21-for-68, four HR). On the injured list with right knee inflammation from 8/25-9/4...Played in 4 rehab games with Triple-A El Paso. Was on the Padres’ roster for the NL Wild Card Series, NLDS, and NLCS, but did not play in a Postseason game. Following the season, played for Licey in the Dominican Winter League and helped the club capture the league title...Was named MVP of the finals. 2020

Jorge Mario Alfaro Buelvas played in 31 games in 2020 after beginning the season on the Injured List. Hit .226 with three home runs and 16 RBIs... Made his season debut on Aug.21 at Washington, going 1x4 with a run scored... Recorded his first career walk-off hit, a single off Brandon Workman, in the Marlins only walk-off win of the season on Sept. 10 against Philadelphia. 

2019

Homered in his team debut on Opening Day 2019; became 17th player to homer in his Marlins debut...Hit a career-high 18 home runs, all as a catcher...Tied J.T. Realmuto (2018) for secondmost HR as a catcher in a season by a Marlin, just one shy of Charles Johnson (19 in 1997)...
