Opened the year with Omaha (AAA), but had his contract selected on June 20 and played in 41 games with Kansas City across two Major League stints…batted .197 (24-for-122) with four doubles and 11 runs scored with the Royals...Made 33 starts with Kansas City, including 31 at shortstop and two at second base...Made his Major League debut on June 20 vs. Minnesota, going 0-for-2 as the starting shortstop...Started all 11 games at shortstop during Adalberto Mondesi's 10-day Injured List stint from June 20-July 1…recorded his first Major League hit on June 22 off Minnesota's José Berríos...Optioned to Omaha upon Mondesi's return on July 1, but returned to Kansas City when Mondesi was placed on the IL again on July 17, and remained with the Royals for the rest of the season...Made his first pitching appearance in the Royals' 19-4 loss on Aug. 26 vs. Oakland, and allowed a home run to Khris Davis in 1.2 innings…he also singled in the eighth, becoming the first Royal to record a hit in a home game in which he pitched since Drew Butera on June 25, 2016 vs. Houston...Hit .299 (85-for-284) with 26 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 66 games with the Storm Chasers, making starts at shortstop (26), second base (22) and third base (16)...Had a season-long eight-game hit streak from May 13-22, in which he hit .500 (18-for-36) with four home runs and eight RBI, including four hits and four RBI on May 14 at Iowa and a two-homer game on May 19 at Oklahoma City.

Spent the entire year with Omaha (AAA), batting a career-best .292 (121-for-414) with 19 doubles, a triple and six homers…his average ranked fourth among Royals' minor league players (min. 300 PA), while his hit total ranked ninth…batted .340 (65-for-202) vs. left-handed pitching...Enjoyed a season-best 12-game hitting streak (May 21-June 3), in which he hit .458 (22-for-48) with three doubles, a triple, a homer and eight RBI…named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week on May 27...Saw action at all four infield positions, which included starts at third base (51), shortstop (31), second base (28) and first base (8)…recorded a .972 overall fielding percentage, committing just 12 errors in 433 chances overall…also made three pitching appearances, which included tossing a scoreless ninth inning vs. Nashville on July 1.
2017
Spent the entire year at Northwest Arkansas (AA), playing in 124 contests…appeared in contests at second base (19), third base (6) and shortstop (96) and designated hitter (2)... Named a Texas League All-Star for the first time in his career...started the game at shortstop for the North Division... His 124 games played ranked ninth in the league while he was also 13th in at bats (453) and 19th in hits (117)… in each of the last five seasons, he's played in at least 118 contests, including a career-high 130 in 2013... After a slow start, batted .332 (62-for-187) with nine doubles, two triples, two homers and 23 runs scored from May 1 to June 30…however, he hit just .204 (41-for-201) with two extra-base hits after the All-Star break... Collected a season-high four hits and two doubles, going 4-for-5 in a 9-6 win, June 14 at Tulsa... Appeared in 21 games for Navegantes del Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League…hit .213 (17-for-80) with three doubles, a triple and six runs scored.
