Zachary Ryan Thompson... Wife's name is Ashlyn...Has one daughter; Maddie (6/19/20)... Is a 2011 graduate of Grace Preparatory Academy in Arlington, TX... Played baseball at the University of Texas-Arlington, where he was selected to the 2014 Sun Belt All-Tournament team.

2022

Began the season as a member of Pittsburgh’s starting rotation... Started the fourth game of the season on April 11 at STL (4.0 IP, 2ER)...Left the game in the fifth inning after taking a line drive off the back of his right shoulder... Pitched in relief for the first time of the year on May 4 at DET (2) and picked up his first win as a member of the Pirates... Tossed 5.0 scoreless innings in a no-decision on May 8 at CIN... Allowed just one hit in 6.0 scoreless innings while winning his second game on May 14 vs. CIN...Extended his scoreless innings streak to 12.0 innings... Went 2-2 with a 2.54 ERA (11 ER/39.0 IP) in an eight-start stretch from May 8-June 17... Placed on the 15-day injured list June 20 (retroactive to June 18) due to right forearm nerve inflammation... Reinstated from the injured list July 3 and started that afternoon vs. MIL (4.2 IP, 2ER)... Lost each of his final six decisions of the season. 

2021

Began season with Jacksonville (Marlins’ AAA)... Notched lone save (third career) in final Triple-A appearance on 6/1 at Gwinnett... Was selected to Miami’s big league roster on 6/5 and made Major League debut as a starter on 6/7 at Boston; suffered the loss (3.0ip/2er)... Became the first pitcher in franchise history to make his big league debut as a starting pitcher at Fenway Park...Pitched 5.0 scoreless innings and earned his first Major League win in his second start on 6/12 vs. Atlanta; also singled off Max Fried in his first big league at-bat... Made his second road start on 6/20 at Chicago (NL); according to the Elias Sports Bureau, he became the fourth player in baseball history to make his first two career road starts at Wrigley Field and Fenway Park and the first to do it in the same season with the same team... Had a career-high 11 strikeouts on 6/26 vs. Washington...Was announced as a pinch hitter on 7/25 vs. San Diego, but was then pinch-hit for... Doubled off Cincinnati’s Wade Miley on 8/27... Made his first 13 appearances as a starter, going 2-6 with a 3.16 ERA (62.2ip/22er) thru 8/27... Finished season in the bullpen, making 12 of his final 13 appearances in relief... Went 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA (11.1ip/4er) in 12 relief outings and 2-7 with a 3.25 ERA (63.2ip/23er) in 14 starts...Picked up the win in relief on the final day of the season; 10/3 vs. Philadelphia.

2019

Split 2019 between Triple-A Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham. Combined to go 5-2 with a 5.23 ERA in 45 games...Pitched in 41 games for Charlotte. Went 5-2 with a 5.50 ERA in 70.1 innings. Struck out 78 and walked 23...Worked in four game for Birmingham. Went 0-0 with a 1.69 ERA.

2018

Combined to go 6-1 with a 1.55 ERA (21 ER/75.1 IP) and 76 strikeouts over 43 relief appearances between Advanced-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham in 2018...Limited hitters to a .206 average (57-277) overall, including a .194 mark (26-134) with runners on base...Recorded a streak of 17 consecutive games with at least one strikeout from April 18- June 14...Made 11 relief appearances with Glendale in the Arizona Fall League, posting a 2.70 ERA (4 ER/13.1 IP) with three saves.
