Made the Opening Day roster and pitched in four games out of the St. Louis bullpen during injury-shortened season...Allowed five runs with one strikeout and six walks over 3.0 innings before being optioned to Memphis (AAA) on 4/7...Appeared in 12 games (nine starts) between Memphis and Palm Beach (High-A) while suffering injuries to his left pinkie finger bone and right pectoral muscle...After 4/25 start at Omaha (2.2 IP, 3 R), broke the pinkie bone in his non-throwing hand after punching a wall in frustration....Placed on the seven-day Injured List with Memphis on 4/28...Re-assigned to Palm Beach on 5/23 and made a pair of starts...Returned to Memphis on 6/2...Strained his right pectoral muscle during his 6/23 start at Oklahoma City, and missed the remainder of the season.

Began the season on the disabled list returning from Tommy John surgery and made his first Major League start of the season at Milwaukee on May 30...Made only one Major League start, coming at Milwaukee (5/30), pitching 4.0 scoreless innings of three-hit ball with two walks and two strikeouts in a no-decision...Exited the game after 73 pitches and was placed on the 10-day disabled list the next day with a right lat strain ending his season...Underwent surgery on 6/6 by Dr. Anthony Romeo in Philadelphia to re-attach the tendon to the strained latissimus dorsi muscle in the upper right side of his back...His start vs. Milwaukee was his first Major League start and appearance since September 29, 2016 vs. Cincinnati, after missing all of 2017 and the first two months of the 2018 season...Was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA tossing 23.0 scoreless innings allowing seven hits with 44 strikeouts in four rehab starts at every Cardinals active minor league affiliate...Made his first rehab start vs. Jupiter (5/9) while pitching for Palm Beach (A)...Allowed four hits including two doubles, while pitching 3.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts in a no decision...Struck out 12 batters over 5.0 scoreless innings allowing one hit and two walks covering 80 pitches in his second rehab start vs. Clinton (5/14) while pitching for Peoria (A)...Was one strikeout shy of his career minor league high and had only four pitches put in play during the game...Matched the Springfield franchise record with 13 strikeouts over 7.2 scoreless innings of one-hit baseball in a 1-0 win, tossing 93 pitches vs. Northwest Arkansas (5/19)...Fired 7.0 scoreless innings of one-hit ball on 5/24, extending his scoreless streak to 23.0 innings during his four rehab starts.
