Lucas Grant Gilbreath...son of Chris and Theresa...mother is a the principal of Cotton Creek Elementary in Westminster, Colo...Married to Kelsey...the pair have two rescue dogs: Bloom and Gray...He and Kelsey are active with Paws 4 Life, an animal rescue in Denver...Attended Legacy High School in Broomfield, Colo., where he led Colorado Class 5A in strikeouts as a junior and senior...Won the Dave Winfield Player of the Year in 2017 after going 5-2 with a 3.76 ERA (81.1 IP, 24 ER) in 14 starts at the University of Minnesota...In his free time, enjoys hunting and video games.

Missed the entire 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery in March during Spring Training.

2022

Set career-highs in innings (43.0) and strikeouts (49) and matched his career high with 47 appearances (2021)...Slated to make his first Opening Day roster before landing on the COVID-19 injured list coming out of Spring Training...activated by the Rockies on April 19...optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on April 26, recalled on May 8 and remained on the active roster...Through a span of 28 games May 14-July 22, posted a 0.64 ERA (28.0 IP, 2 ER) with a .189 opponent batting average...third-lowest ERA among all Major Leaguers through that span (min. 20 games)...From his final recall from Triple-A on May 8 through the end of the season, posted a 3.18 ERA (39.2 IP, 14 ER) with 22 walks and 46 strikeouts over 43 appearances, limiting opponents to a .225 average (31-for-138) with seven extra-base hits and one home run (0.23 HR/9)...Following the All-Star Break, went 2-0 with a 6.23 ERA (13.0 IP, 9 ER), allowing runs in seven of 15 outings...Allowed 16 of his 30 inherited runners to score, a 53.3 scored percentage that was the highest in the Majors...Ended the season on the 15-day Injured List with a left elbow flexor strain (Aug. 28, retro to Aug. 27)...Over five games with the Isotopes, tallied a 9.64 ERA (4.2 IP, 5 ER) with two walks and six strikeouts.

Made 47 relief appearances and one start across six stints on the active roster (including three stints as the 27th man of a doubleheader) in his first Major League season...Scored upon in 11 of 47 total appearances, including one start … started July 28 at Los Angeles-AL, his first since making 28 for High-A Lancaster in 2019...Went scoreless in 26 of 29 appearances (0.96 ERA) and in 32 of 38 following his last recall on June 5 … posted a 2.10 ERA (34.1 IP, 8 ER) with 19 walks and 36 strikeouts while limiting opponents to a .177 average over that span...Recorded a career-long streak of 17-straight scoreless outings (16.0 IP) from Aug. 8-Sept. 22, the longest single-season streak by a Rockies reliever since Adam Ottavino in 2016 (21 games) … earned two wins and allowed seven hits with seven walks and 15 strikeouts while, holding opponents to a .130 average (7-for-54)...Earned his first Major League win on Sept. 9 at Philadelphia after throwing a perfect frame with one strikeout … second win Sept. 17 at Washington...Compiled a 2.42 ERA (22.1 IP, 6 ER) with 21 strikeouts and 11 walks in 21 relief appearances at Coors Field...Took his first Major League save July 23 at Dodger Stadium, tossing a three-up, three-down 10th inning...Made his Major League debut on May 1 at Arizona and allowed a home run on his first pitch before finishing the inning with five more pitches … only pitcher in the last 20 years to pitch one inning, allow a home run and throw six or fewer pitches in his Major League debut.

Did not pitch due to the COVID-19 pandemic...Participated in the Instructional League in Arizona during the offseason.

2019

Spent the season with High-A Lancaster, where he ranked among California League leaders in games started (28-1st), innings pitched (144.0, 2nd) and strikeouts (143, 3rd)...Recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts on July 26 at Visalia...Recorded seven quality starts … tossed a season-high seven innings five times...Posted a 6.85 ERA (68.1 IP, 52 ER) in 14 starts at home in Lancaster, and a 4.88 ERA (75.2 IP, 41 ER) in 14 starts on the road.

2018

Made five relief appearances to begin the season, before moving into Asheville’s starting rotation...Recorded two saves while posting an 8.18 ERA (11.0 IP, 10 ER) in relief...Went 6-9 with a 4.71 ERA (105.0 IP, 55 ER), 17 walks and 108 strikeouts as a starter...Posted a 4.13 ERA (56.2 IP, 26 ER) in the second half of the season, after a 5.92 fi rst-half ERA (59.1 IP, 39 ER).

2017

Made 10 starts and two relief appearances for Rookie Level Grand Junction in his first professional season...Named the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week for July 17-23, after tossing five shutout innings and allowing one hit on July 22 vs. Billings.
