Jonathan Aldair Araúz signed with the Phillies as a 16-year-old out of Panama...Was one of five Panamanian-born position players in the Majors in 2022...As part of the Red Sox Rookie Development Program, visited patients at Boston Children’s Hospital on January 15, 2020. Last name is pronounced ah-rah-OOZ...Made his Major League debut with Boston in 2020 at 21 years old and spent the entire season on the active roster...Prior to that season, had never played at the Triple-A level and had appeared in only 28 Double-A games...Representing his native Panama in the 2023 World Baseball Classic...Was named a Caribbean Series All-Star in 2020 after playing in six games for Panama, all starts at shortstop...Went 7-for-26 (.269) with four RBI, four runs scored and a double...Signed as an international free agent with the Phillies four days after turning 16...He made his pro debut the next season in 2015 and at age 16, was the youngest player in the Gulf Coast League that year.

2023

Claimed off waivers by the New York Mets organization on Dec. 7, 2022. Played in 27 games for the Mets, hitting .136 (8-for-59) with three homers and nine RBI. Spent a majority of the season with Triple-A Syracuse (100 G), slashing .239/.340/.415 with a .755 OPS, 14 doubles, three triples, 14 home runs and 53 RBI. Played for Panama in the World Baseball Classic, slashing .267/.421/.333 in four games with a .754 OPS and three RBI. Slashed .293/.396/.463 in 53 games on the road compared to .177/.274/.360 in 47 games at home with Triple-A Syracuse…had his best month at the plate in June, slashing .273/.396/.584 with three doubles, three triples, five home runs and 17 RBI.

2022

Split his season between Boston and Baltimore... Missed a month after suffering a fractured right finger.

2021

Appeared in 28 games over four stints with the Red Sox...Made nine starts at 2B, nine at SS and one at 3B...Was the only AL position player born in Panama...Recorded two game-winning hits in the eighth inning for BOS (8/7 at TOR-G2 and 8/27 at CLE)...Also appeared in 68 games with Triple-A Worcester, batting .245 with a .326 OBP (57-for-233, 30 BB).

2020
