Born in Toms River, N.J., which is near the span of 141 miles of oceanfront that is known as the Jersey Shore. Former MLB third baseman Todd Frazier grew up in Toms River and helped lead Toms River East to a LLWS in 1998....Szapucki and his family moved to Florida when he was 10 years old and the lefty graduated from Dwyer High School in Palm Beach, Fla.. He was committed to play collegiately at the University of Florida before signing with the Mets after being drafted out of high school.

Missed the entire season after being shut down in Spring Training after only two appearances. Was placed on the 60-day Injured List on March 30 with left arm neuropathy. Underwent surgery to correct Thoracic Outlet Syndrome on May 19 in St. Louis...the surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Thompson.
2022
Acquired as part of the return from New York-NL in the Darin Ruf trade at the Trade Deadline and had two stints with SF after being acquired....In 10 games as a Giant he allowed three runs in 13.2 innings (1.98 ERA) while striking out 16, walking four and allowing 12 hits (seven of the 12 hits were for extra-bases including two homers)...all of his appearances with SF were out of the bullpen...Was placed on the 15-day IL on October 3 with a strained right hip....Had one appearance with the Mets that came against the Giants at Oracle Park on May 25...allowed nine earned runs in 1.1 innings in a starting role...Opponents were 5-for-23 (.217) with 10 strikeouts in at-bats ending with his curveball in 2022....Appeared in 18 games (16 starts) with Triple-A Syracuse before being traded to San Francisco...had a 3.38 ERA (24er, 64.0ip) with a 3.00 SO/BB ratio (87k, 29bb)...had a 1.08 ERA (1er, 8.1ip) in seven relief appearances with Triple-A Sacramento....Posted a combined 3.11 ERA (25er, 72.1ip) with 102 strikeouts between Triple-A Syracuse and Sacramento...had an 0.87 ERA (1er, 10.1ip) with 18 strikeouts and three walks in his Triple-A relief outings.
2021
Underwent left ulnar nerve transposition surgery on July 13 at the Hospital for Special Surgery...Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek performed the procedure...Made his Major League debut on June 30 at Atlanta...Worked 3.2 innings, allowed six runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts...Recalled on May 27 from Syracuse (AAA) and optioned on May 28 without making an appearance...Went 0-4 with a 4.10 ERA (19 earned runs/41.2 innings) in 10 games, nine starts with Syracuse (AAA)...Issued 28 walks and struck out 41 batters.

Split his season between Columbia (A), St. Lucie (A) and Binghamton (AA)¡Set career-high marks in appearances (21) and innings pitched (61.2)¡Struck out a season-high nine batters over 5.0 shutout innings pitched in a 5-1 victory over Palm Beach on July 22... Averaged 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings on the season.
2017-18
Made six starts for Columbia (A) before undergoing elbow surgery on July 19...Missed the entire 2018 season recovering from Tommy John surgery.
