Jared Cole Oliva (pronounced Olive-ah)...Is a 2013 graduate of Valencia High School in Santa Clarita, CA, where he earned two varsity letters...Was a high school teammate of Milwaukee infielder Keston Hiura...Hit .321 (78-for-243) with 25 doubles, four home runs and 54 RBI in 59 games as a redshirt junior at the University of Arizona in 2017...Has a degree in marketing from Arizona’s Eller College of Management...Started all 59 games in 2017 for the Wildcats while being named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-West Region First-Team...Was teammates with Pirates infielder Kevin Newman and Philadelphia’s Scott Kingery while playing at Arizona...His father, David, played professionally in the Red Sox organization from 1982-86...His uncle, Steve, played in the Atlanta Braves organization from 1974-78...His brother, Nicholas, played defensive end at New Mexico State University.

Reached base safely in 20 straight games during the 208 season from 7/5 to 8/1...Ranked third among all Pittsburgh minor leaguers in stolen bases in 2018...Was named an organizational All-Star by MiLB.com following the 2018 campaign...Was signed by Pirates scout Derrick Van Dusen.

2017

Began his professional career with the West Virginia Black Bears in 2017 after being selected by the Pirates in the seventh round of the First-Year Player Draft... Recorded a New York-Penn League-leading 1.000 fielding percentage in 2017...Also ranked first in the New York-Penn League in sacrifice hits in 2017.
