Jonathan Bowlan resides in Arlington, Tenn...Graduated from Bartlett High School (Tenn.), where he was named Male Athlete of the Year as a senior...Pitched collegiately at the University of Memphis, where he posted a 3.71 ERA (35 ER in 85.0 IP) with 104 strikeouts in 2018 as a junior...fanned a school record and a 2018 Division I-best 18 hitters in a complete-game win over South Florida (2 ER, 9.0 IP) on April 28...Father, Mark, threw the lone perfect game in the history of the University of Memphis program and pitched for two seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization.

2023

Made his Major League debut on Sept. 27, 2023 at Detroit, becoming the 58th different player to appear in a game for the 2023 Royals, matching the club record set in 2004...In his Major League debut, Bowlan became the ninth player selected by Kansas City in 2018 to debut with the Royals, following Brady Singer (first round), Jackson Kowar (first), Daniel Lynch IV (first), Kris Bubic (first), Kyle Isbel (third), Austin Cox (fifth), Jonathan Heasley (13th) and Nate Eaton (21st).... Prior to being recalled on Sept. 19, he made 24 appearances (21 starts) and recorded 102.0 innings between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha…his totals in appearances, starts and innings were all his most since 2019.

2022

Made his return from Tommy John Surgery on June 17, 2022, 12 months after his surgery…he made seven starts in the Arizona Complex League and one start at High-A Quad Cities before joining Double-A Northwest Arkansas for his final nine starts... Named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for the period of Aug. 22-28, after earning a 7-2 win vs. Springfield in which he allowed just two hits and two walks over 5.0 scoreless innings.

2021

Made four starts with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, but exited his fourth start on May 23 after two batters and did not pitch the rest of the season...Underwent Tommy John Surgery during the first week of June...In his four starts, he went 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA (3 ER in 17.0 IP) and 25 strikeouts (13.2 K/9) and just three walks (1.6 BB/9).

2020

Spent the season at the Alternate Training Site in Kansas City, Kansas...Also participated in the Royals’ postseason camp at Kauffman Stadium in October.

2019

Split the year between Lexington (A) and Wilmington (A+), combining to go 11-5 with a 3.14 ERA (51 ER in 146.0 IP) with 150 strikeouts (9.24 K/9), compared to just 23 walks (1.42 BB/9)...Among Royals farmhands, ranked tied for second in wins, third in strikeouts, fifth in innings, eighth in starts (23)…also among pitchers who worked at least 80.0 innings, ranked first in strikeouts/walks ratio (6.52), second in WHIP (0.99) and eighth in ERA...Threw the second no-hitter in Wilmington (A+) history on July 15, recording nine strikeouts and no walks on 98 pitches (63 strikes)…the lone base runner reached on a throwing error in the second inning...Earned Carolina League Pitcher of the Week honors on July 21...Named a South Atlantic League midseason All-Star, working 0.2 innings and allowing one hit with one strikeout in the contest in Charleston, West Virginia...Tallied a career-high nine strikeouts in five different starts, including his first outing of the year vs. West Virginia (6.0 IP)...Held opponents to a .227 average (121-for-533), which included right-handers batting .216 (69-for-320) against him.

2018

Made nine starts for Idaho Falls (Rookie) during his first professional season…earned his first victory on July 7 at Orem, allowing one run on two hits over 5.0 innings, with a season-high six strikeouts...After pitching to a 2.25 ERA (4 ER in 16.0 IP) over his first four starts, surrendered seven earned runs in consecutive outings (July 14, 21), opening a four-start losing streak (July 14-Aug. 20).
