William Richard Mueller...he and his wife, Amy, make their home in Mesa, AZ with their two children...played at Southwest Missouri State...graduated from DeSmet High School in Creve Coeur, MO...worked with the San Francisco Boys & Girls Club while with the Giants, hosting clinics and recording public service announcements...was the toy solider in Oakland Ballet's fundraising presentation of "The Nutcracker"...has been actively involved in the Big Brothers & Big Sisters organization during his career...has made numerous visits to local schools and hospitals throughout his time in the big leagues...originally signed by Giants' scout Todd Thomas.
2005
In his third season with the Red Sox, batted .295 with 10 homers and 62 RBI in 150 games ...Batted .307 (132-for-430) over his final 123 games ... Batted .338 (47-for-139) with men in scoring position and .301 (22-for-73) with runners in scoring position and two outs ... His 10 hits with the bases loaded led all Major Leaguers en route to a .526 average (10-for-19), the third-best mark in the American League ... Hit .283 with 12 homers, 57 RBI and 75 runs scored ...Started all 14 postseason games at third base and batted .321 (18-for-56) with three doubles, three RBI, seven walks, two strikeouts and 10 runs scored ...Recorded a .267 (8-for-30) average in the ALCS vs. New York with a double, an RBI and four runs scored ... Went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored in Game 3...his lone RBI in the series was among the biggest in Red Sox history...down 3-games-to-none and trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 4 at Fenway Park, grounded a no-out single to center off Mariano Rivera, scoring Dave Roberts from second to tie the game...the Sox went on to win 6-4 in 12 on David Ortiz's walk-off home run ... Started 14 games at second base ...Batted .344 with nine homers and 36 RBI at home...hit .298 with eight homers and 39 RBI while batting left-handed ... Enjoyed his finest season in his first campaign with the Red Sox, winning the AL batting title with a .326 average (40 points above his career mark going into 2003) and establishing personal bests with a team-high 45 doubles, 19 home runs and 85 RBI ... His 45 doubles tied for fifth in the AL and his .398 on-base percentage ranked sixth in the league ... Was named Comeback Player of the Year at the Boston chapter of the BBWAA annual Awards dinner in January ... Keyed a 14-7 win over the Rangers on July 29 in Arlington, going 3-for-5 with three homers and nine RBI...hit grand slams from both sides of the plate, a Major League first...hit a solo homer off R.A. Dickey in the third innings...after grounding out in the fourth and lining out in the sixth, hit a grand slam from the right side off Aaron Fultz in the seventh...an inning later, batting left-handed against Jay Powell, hit another slam. Became just the 12th big leaguer and 10th in the American League to hit two slams in a game ... Also went deep from both sides of the plate on July 4 at New York, batting right-handed against David Wells and hitting from the left side off Dan Miceli...the two games with homers from both sides were the first of his career...only three AL players had previously turned the trick twice in the same calendar month: Eddie Murray (May 8 and 9, 1987 for Baltimore), Tony Clark (July 18 and 25, 1999 for Detroit) and Jeff Davanon (June 3 and 4, 2003 for Anaheim) ... Batted .342 with 11 homers while batting left-handed ... Had 49 multi-hit games (13 three-hit games and three four-hit games) ... Hit safely in 29 consecutive starts from April 25-June 5.

Split the year between the Cubs and Giants, batting .262 with 7 homers and 38 RBI in 111 games ... Opened the season on Chicago's 15-day disabled list due to surgery to remove bone chips in his left knee...activated on May 6 and went 2-for-4 with a homer, an RBI and two runs scored in a 6-5 vs. St. Louis ... After batting .266 with seven homers and 37 RBI in 103 games for the Cubs, was dealt to San Francisco on Sept. 3, and appeared in eight September contests for the NL Champion Giants.
2001
Played in only 70 games for the Cubs due to a serious knee injury that required surgery, costing him three months ... Sustained an open fracture of his left patella (knee cap) on May 13 at St. Louis after sliding into metal beneath the padding along the wall down in foul territory down the third base line at Busch Stadium ... Underwent surgery performed by Dr. George Paletta that same day and did not return until Aug. 13.
2000
Appeared in a career-high 153 games for the NL West champion Giants, hitting .268 with 10 homers and 55 RBI ... Scored a career-high 97 runs and set a personal best with 560 at-bats ... Fanned just 62 times in 631 plate appearances (once every 10.2 plate appearances), the ninth-best ratio in the NL.
1999
Batted .290 in 116 games for the Giants ... Was San Francisco's Opening Day third baseman and was hit on the left foot by a Brett Tomko pitch in the top of the first of the April 5 season opener at Cincinnati...suffered a non-displaced fracture to his left big toe and was on the disabled list from April 6-May 17.

Hit .294 with nine home runs and 59 RBI in 145 games for San Francisco ... Posted his first career multi-homer game on April 5 at Arizona, clubbing a pair of solo shots off Andy Benes ... Hit safely in a career-high 17 consecutive games April 24-May 14, batting .418 (28-for-67) ... Slugged his first career pinch-hit home run on May 22 vs. St. Louis off Jeff Brantley and his first career grand slam on Sept. 19 vs. Los Angeles off Ismael Valdes.
1997
In his first full Major League season, helped the Giants to the NL West crown, leading the club with a .292 average with seven homers and 44 RBI in 128 games ... Hit his first big league home run June 3 at Florida, a solo shot off Rob Stanifer ... Went 3-for-12 in the NL Division Series with a Game 1 homer off Kevin Brown.
1996
Hit .302 in 106 games for Triple-A Phoenix and made his Major League, batting .330 in 55 games over three stints with the Giants ... Had 20 multi-hit games after being recalled on April 17...debuted as a pinch hitter the next day at Chicago...his first big league hit was a pinch-hit single off Terry Adams on April 19 at Chicago.
