Brett Kennedy...is the son of Bernie and Cindy...has one brother, Chase, who played baseball at Haverford College... his two grandfathers served in the US Army and US Navy...attended Fordham University (NY) where he ranked second in strikeouts in Fordham history after three seasons and led the Atlantic 10 Conference in strikeouts (2015)... graduated from Atlantic City High School (NJ) and earned All-Cape Atlantic Honorable Mention as well as the "Mr. Baseball" award for the team...his favorite TV show is Westworld and his favorite movie is Forrest Gump. ..his all-time favorite baseball player is Roberto Clemente...roots for the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Penguins.

2023

Spent most of the season at Louisville...made his five appearances during three stints with the Reds...Was on the Reds’ roster on 7/4 and 7/5...made one appearance...started and earned the 8-4 win on 7/4 at Wsh in his first Major League appearance since a start at Cin on 9/17/18...From 8/7-8/26 posted a 4.09 ERA in one start and two relief appearances (11ip, 9h, 5er, 4bb, 5k, 0hr, .225baa)...In the 9-2 win on 8/11 at Pit threw 2.0 scoreless innings in his first Major League relief appearance...In the 1-0 win on 8/18 vs Tor started and threw 5.0 scoreless innings...Christian Encarnacion-Strand won it for the Reds with a walk-off HR off Jordan Hicks...In a 10-9 loss on 8/25 at AZ threw 4.0 innings in relief, the most by a Reds pitcher since Connor Overton threw 5.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen on 9/30/22 at Cubs...the next night at AZ, an 8-7 win in 11 innings, Ben Lively threw 5.2 innings in relief...Made one appearance while on the roster from 9/1-9/2, pitched in relief in the 15-7 loss on 9/3 vs Cubs...Began the season with the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball...On 5/13 was signed by the Reds to a Minor League contract and assigned to Louisville...In eight starts for the Bats went 2-2, 3.71 before he joined the Reds’ Taxi Squad on 7/3 preceding his start and win on 7/4 at Wsh...On 10/9 cleared waivers and was outrighted to Louisville...on 10/10 elected free agency...re-signed on 12/20.

2018

Split the season between El Paso (AAA) and SD, making his ML debut on 8/8 at MIL...became the 12th Padre to make his ML debut in 2018 and the fourth to do so as a starting pitcher...Made 16 starts for ELP, going 10-0 with a 2.72 ERA (27 ER, 89.1 IP), striking out 80 and walking 23, while limiting opposing hitters to a .233 average...finished the year as the only pitcher in all Minor League baseball to have made at least 15 starts and have a 1.000 winning percentage...At the time SD selected his contract on 8/7, he ranked first among the Pacific Coast League Southern Division-leading ELP staff in ERA (2.72), wins (10) and ranked second behind only Walker Lockett in IP (89.1), GS (16) and SO (80)...allowed just six HR in the PCL, and at the time, was one of just eight pitchers to have tossed at least 89.0 IP and allowed six HR or fewer in the PCL...ELP won each of his last eight starts from 6/19-7/8...in that time, he was 7-0 with a 2.47 ERA (13 ER, 47.1 IP)…allowed three earned runs-or-fewer in 13 of his 16 outings and earned PCL Mid-Season All-Star honors...In his ML debut on 8/8 at MIL, was saddled with the loss after working 4.0 innings and allowing six runs (earned) on 11 hits with three SO...five of the six runs he allowed came in the first inning...after MIL scored five runs in the first, proceeded to hold them to just one run in his last 3.0 innings...Was one of 16 Padres to debut in 2018 and one of five to do so as a starting pitcher...Became the first pitcher in the Modern Era (since 1900) to allow back-to-back-to-back HR in the first inning of his debut...Fanned a career-high five batters on 8/25 at LAD...worked 5.0 innings of five-hit ball...Recorded his first-career win in his penultimate start of the season on 8/31 vs. COL...worked a career-high 6.0 innings in the contest, allowing just four hits and no runs...Following his final start of the season on 9/7 at CIN, he underwent season-ending left knee surgery...Worked 5.0-or-more innings in four of his six starts...when he went at least 5.0 innings in a game, he fostered a 4.29 ERA (10 ER, 21.0 IP)…In his six starts, did not get three-or-more runs of support from the SD offense...received two runs of support on just two occasions (8/19 vs. ARI and 9/7 at CIN)...Relied on three primary pitches: four-seamer (67.4%), slider (24.1%) and changeup (8.5%)…his fastball averaged at 91.4 mph...opposing bats hit .167 against his changeup, but they hit .333 against his slider and .359 off his four-seamer.

2017

Spent the entire campaign with San Antonio (AA), earning a career-high 13 wins over 26 starts...Named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending in 5/7 after tossing 13.0 shutout-innings in back-to-back starts, allowing just seven hits and two walks while earning the win in both appearances...Went 4-2 over six starts in May while pitching to a 2.14 ERA (8 ER, 33.2 IP) with 32 SO against six BB...Made one start during the Missions' postseason run, earning the win after pitching 5.1 IP of three-run ball on seven hits with four strikeouts...Was named a Texas League Post-Season All-Star.

2016

Split the season between Fort Wayne (A) and Lake Elsinore (A), pitching to a combined 8-11 record and a 3.55 ERA (56 ER, 142.0 IP) with 147 SO against 51 BB...Earned California League Pitcher of the Week for Lake Elsinore for the week ending in 7/17, earning the win in back-to-back starts after allowing just one earned run over 12.1 IP with 15 SO. • His 3.80 ERA finished fifth among California League pitchers...Posted a 2-1 record with a 2.54 ERA (8 ER, 28.1 IP) in six starts for Fort Wayne before being promoted to Lake Elsino.

2015

Made his professional debut with Tri-City (A), pitching to a 2.70 ERA (9 ER, 30.0 IP) over 12 games (nine starts) while limiting hitters to a .173 batting average...Pitched to a 1.08 ERA (2 ER, 16.2 IP) over six starts at home while holding opponents to a .132 clip...Made his first professional start on 7/7 at Salem-Keizer, allowing two earned runs on three hits over 2.2 IP with 3 strikeouts.
