Was limited to 13 appearances (11 starts) with Class AAA El Paso in the San Diego organization due to a pair of stints on the injured list...Began the season in the El Paso rotation before going on the injured list from 4/16-27 with right shoulder inflammation…was placed on the injured list a second time on 5/3 with a recurrence of the shoulder inflammation…made four rehab appearances with the Padres Arizona League Rookie teams before being reinstated on 7/12...Finished the season with the Chihuahuas, appearing in 10 games (eight starts).

In his first season with SD, set career highs in starts (11), wins (two), quality starts (three), SO (37) and IP (73.0)...missed 62 games on the DL due to a right elbow impingement...Began the season in the starting rotation, making seven starts from 4/2 to 5/5 and posting an 0-3 record with a 6.47 ERA (23 ER, 32.0 IP) in that time..Moved to the bullpen and made five relief appearances from 5/11 to 6/5, posting a 8.27 ERA (15 ER, 16.1 IP)...Shelved on the 10-day DL on 6/20 with a right elbow impingement...reinstated on 9/1 after making six rehab appearances (all starts) with Lake Elsinore (A) from 8/2-27, posting a combined 4.13 ERA (13 ER, 28.1 IP) and a 1-3 record with 28 SO against 12 BB...On 9/3 at ARI, earned his first win as a Padre and his first since 4/2/17 while with NYY... On 4/30 vs. BAL, tossed a scoreless ninth, moved to first base in the 10th and moved back to pitcher in the 11th inning, playing a position other than pitcher for the first time in his professional career…became the first Yankees pitcher to appear at a defensive position in a game since Ron Guidry played one-third of an inning in center field in the resumption of the "Pine Tar Game" on 8/18/83 vs. KC... Went 1-2 with a 3.24 ERA (25.0IP, 26H, 13R/9ER, 12BB, 11K, 1HR) over five starts in his lone stint with the Yankees (9/6-10/2)…held opponents to a .277 (26-for-94) BA; LH .270 (10-for-37, 0HR), RH .281 (16-for-57, 1HR)…was the only pitcher drafted by the Yankees to make a start for the club in 2016.Earned his first Major League win with 5.0 shutout innings (4H, 2BB, 2K) on 9/7 vs. Toronto…was the third Yankees pitcher since 2010 to throw at least 5.0 scoreless innings in his season debut, joining Iván Nova (6.2IP on 6/24/15 vs. Philadelphia) and Alfredo Aceves (5.1IP in relief on 5/4/14 vs. Tampa Bay)…was the first Yankee to make his season debut in September and toss at least 5.0 scoreless innings since Dave Eiland (8.1IP on 9/10/90 vs. Texas). Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 4/3 (retroactive to 3/31) with a left great toe tear…was transferred to the 60-day D.L. on 5/14…combined with Single-A Charleston, Single-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton to make four rehab starts from 8/8-23, going 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (12.0IP, 14H, 11R/9ER, 3BB, 10K, 3HR)…was returned from rehab, reinstated from the 60-day D.L. and optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on 8/24. Began the season with Trenton, making 14 appearances (13 starts) before being promoted to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he pitched in nine games (eight starts)¡Was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, 4/14-20, and International League Pitcher of the Week, 7/21-27...Was recalled by NYY on 8/20 and made his ML debut that night vs CLE with 2.0 scoreless IP in relief...Made his first ML start on 9/2 at BAL, allowing two runs on six hits over 5.0 IP...In 23 games (21 starts) between the Trenton and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, went 6-7 with a 4.37 ERA (50 ER, 103.0 IP).

Combined to go 4-11 with a 4.71 ERA (145.1IP, 76ER) in 27 games (26 starts) with Single-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton¡ tied for fifth among Yankees farmhands with 120 strikeouts. Spent the majority of the season with Tampa, going 4-11 with a 5.12 ERA (126.2IP, 72ER) in 24 appearances (23 starts). Was promoted to Trenton on 8/19 and posted a 1.93 ERA (18.2IP, 4ER) in three starts without recording a decision. Attended spring training as a non-roster invitee with the Yankees, making one relief appearance and allowing 2H and 1ER in 1.0IP. Was added to the Yankees' 40-man roster on 11/20/13.

Went 9-11 with a 4.58 ERA (120.0IP, 61ER) in 27 games (26 starts) with Single-A Charleston¡ led the team in wins, losses, starts, innings pitched and strikeouts (121)¡ ranked third among Yankees farmhands in strikeouts. Led the South Atlantic League in walks allowed (72) and tied for fourth in starts¡ held opponents to a .237 (101-for-426) batting average, the fourth-lowest opp. BA among SAL starters, while his 9.05K/9.0IP ratio ranked second. His lone relief appearance came on 6/10 vs. Savannah (4.2IP, 6H, 2ER, 1BB, 5K). Following the season, was named by Baseball America as having the organization's "Best Curveball."
