Champlain resides in Capistrano Beach, Calif...In three seasons at the University of Southern California from 2019-21, he went 5-8 with a 5.31 ERA (75 ER in 127.0 IP) with 107 strikeouts in 36 games (21 starts)...Graduated from Santa Margarita Catholic HS (Calif.) in 2018...Prior to graduation, was named a 2017 Under Armour All-American, pitched a scoreless seventh inning under the tutelage of National Team manager Wes Helms and opposed Bobby Witt Jr., who played on the American Team...Played for Team USA National Teams from 2014-17.

Champlain pitched in 28 games (27 starts) between Double-A Northwest Arkansas (seven starts) and Triple-A Omaha (21 games, 20 starts), combining to go 6-10 with a 5.07 ERA (79 ER in 140.1 IP) and 120 strikeouts, the fourth-most among Royals farmhands behind Noah Cameron (149), Tyson Guerrero (123) and Steven Zobac (123)...He began the season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas and made seven starts for the Naturals, going 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA (14 ER in 36.0 IP), including three starts in May, when he went 2-0 with a 0.52 ERA (one ER in 17.1 IP) before earning a call-up to Triple-A Omaha and Royals Minor League Pitcher of the Month...Made his Triple-A debut on May 23 vs. Columbus and spun 6.0 innings of three-run ball with five strikeouts, but did not factor into the Storm Chasers’ 10-3 win after they rallied for six runs in the seventh inning to take the lead...Finished the campaign strong by working 6.0 shutout frames vs. Toledo on Sept. 15 and 4.0 innings of one-run ball at Louisville on Sept. 20.

Champlain pitched for High-A Quad Cities (11 starts) and Double-A Northwest Arkansas (14 starts), combining to go 11-8 with a 3.33 ERA (50 ER in 135.1 IP) and 125 strikeouts to just 43 walks... He ranked among Royals organization leaders in wins (first), innings pitched (first), WHIP (first, 1.15), starts (T-2nd, 25), ERA (third), opponents’ average (third, .225), winning percentage (fourth, .579) and strikeouts (sixth)... Was excellent in May with the River Bandits, going 3-1 with a 0.75 ERA (2 ER in 24.0 IP) with 26 strikeouts to just five walks...he won Midwest League Pitcher of the Week from May 1-7... Made his Double-A debut on June 22 at Tulsa and proceeded to dominate in July, going 2-0 with a 2.42 ERA (6 ER in 22.1 IP) across four starts, which included a Texas League Pitcher of the Week honor from July 24-30, when he allowed just one run over 12.0 innings across two starts with 10 strikeouts... On July 27 at Arkansas, he spun 6.0 no-hit innings with six strikeouts en route to his second Double-A win... he was featured as the MLB Network Prospect Spotlight on Aug. 1.
