2012
Missed almost entire spring training with shoulder/neck discomfort that led to him missing the first 150 games of the season. The injury resulted in him having neurogenic thoracic outlet surgery performed on 7/19 by Dr. Greg Pearl in Dallas, Texas. Worked his way back to make three regular season starts and three postseason starts. Hurled 5.0 IP on 9/21 at CHI in his first start since Game 7 of the 2011 World Series (10/28/11). His start at Wrigley Field resulted in a no decision as he battled 59° and rain, allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts (77 pitches). Took the loss at HOU on 9/26, throwing 6.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits in a 2-0 loss. Struck out seven over 6.0 innings in a 3-1 loss to Cincinnati on 10/2. Moved past Bob Forsch into sole possession of 3rd place among the St. Louis Cardinals all-time strikeout leaders with 1,085. It was the 10th slam by a Cardinals pitcher and he also drove in six runs, a Cardinals record for a pitcher.
2008
Returned to ML action for first time since Opening Day, 2007, but his return was short-lived after he experienced shoulder problems that forced him from his start on 8/10 at CHI. ... Was on DL, rehabbing from elbow surgery, until 7/30. Made a pair of rehab starts (7/20 at Springfield-AA and 7/24 at Memphis-AAA). ... Made season debut on 7/30 at ATL and worked 4.0 IP, allowing one run on five hits. Made a total of three starts & one relief appearance for the Cardinals. ... Was removed from 8/10 start at CHI due to right shoulder strain after 5.1 IP, allowing 4 runs (2 ER) in the loss. ... Returned to DL from 8/11 to 9/1. Made his first relief appearance since 2000 on 9/2 at ARI, a span of 144 starts between relief outings. ... Following 9/2 outing at ARI, he was shut down for the remainder of the season due to nerve irritation leading to his right shoulder. ... After a series of shoulder exams by nerve specialists, he opted not to undergo surgery following the season. ... He underwent right elbow surgery to transpose the ulnar nerve on 11/4 performed by Dr. George Paletta.
2007
Was honored with his third-straight Cardinals Opening Day starting assignment on 4/1 vs. NYM, Major League baseball's first game of the season. Gave up five runs in 6.0 innings of a 6-1 loss to the Mets in a rematch of the 2006 NLCS on Opening Night. Complained of stiffness and soreness in his right elbow the day after his opening night start and was seen by Dr. George Paletta and diagnosed with inflammation in his right elbow. Placed on the DL on 4/10 (retroactive to 4/2) with moderate arthritis and a mild impingement in the elbow with no evidence of acute ligament injury. After two rehab starts with the Class-A Palm Beach club (2 GS, 4.1 IP, 5 R, 3ER), swelling returned to his elbow. Had elbow ligament replacement surgery (Tommy John) on 7/24 by team physician, Dr. George Paletta and missed the remainder of the season. Made six spring starts, going 1-1 with a 2.60 ERA (8 ER/27.2 IP). Struck out 19 batters and did not allow a home run all spring.
2006
Followed his Cy Young year with a 15-8 record, 3.09 ERA, which ranked 2nd in the N.L. and 3rd in the majors...Just missed becoming the first Cardinal to lead the league in ERA since Joe Magrane in 1988 (2.18)...Chris' 1.81 home ERA ranked 1st in the M.L. & his daytime ERA of 2.40 was 2nd in N.L...His 36 wins over the last two seasons tied for tops in the majors (Garland-CWS) & 51 wins since 2004 are 3rd in the majors (55, R. Oswalt-HOU & J. He threw 107 pitches in route-going perfomance with six strikeouts...Allowed three home runs, and couldn't hold leads of 4-0 and 6-3, in a no-decision 8/9 in 8-7 loss at CIN. Allowed six runs on six hits in 7.0 IP. The 3 HRs were his most allowed since 7/30/04 at SF...Pitched 6.0 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits vs. MIL on 8/4 for his second straight loss. Hit by hard ground ball in back of the thumb, but stayed in the game...his 65 pitches were his fewest thrown in any start for the season...Made his quickest exit (4.0 IP) of the season 7/30 at CHI in 6-3 loss to the Cubs. It was his first career loss at Wrigley Field & snapped his 4-game win streak...Combined with Flores & Isringhausen for the Cardinals first ever shutout win (1-0) in Denver on 7/25. It was Carp's 1st career appearance at Coors Field...Quieted red-hot Braves in 8-3 win on 7/19, a game that started 2:12 late after severe weather swept through St. Louis...Allowed just two runs in 7.0 IP after Braves had scored 10 runs or more in each of their five previous games...Was dominant in complete game shutout 7/14 vs. LA, a 5-0 win. Allowed the Dodgers just two hits (one in 4th & 8th), walking none and fanning 7...Pitched 8.0+ innings in a 7-5, 12-inning win 7/9 at HOU...Allowed seven hits in the no decision and fanned seven...Was sharp through 5.0, allowing only one hit and a walk until giving up two runs in the sixth. A 2-run HR in the 8th and a single in the 9th that later scored after Carp exited the game finished Houston's scoring...Picked up his first career win vs. the Braves in his start at Turner Field on July 4. Pitched 5.0 innings before rain interrupted the game for two hours and 55 min...Allowed two runs on four hits in the 6-3 Cards win...Until that win, Atlanta was one of two teams Carp did not have a win against among all Major League teams (never faced St. Louis)...Went 7.0 innings 6/28 vs. CLE allowing just one run. Opened the season with Dunedin of the Florida State League where he was 3-5 with a 2.17 ERA in 15 starts...Surrendered 3 earned runs or less in 13 of his 15 starts...Promoted to Knoxville (AA) on June 25 in just his second pro season...Was 3-7 in 12 starts with a 5.18 ERA...In his last seven starts he was 3-2 with a 2.86 ERA.

Finished third in Pioneer League in ERA (2.76), tied for fourth in starts (15) and was fourth in strikeouts per nine innings pitched (8.50)...Struck out a season-high nine in his pro debut, beating Great Falls June 18 (6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R) and tossed six scoreless innings of one-hit ball...Also defeated Lethbridge to claim Pitcher-of-the-Week honors ending July 2.
