Was selected as the Indiana Super Team Player-of-the-Year in 2010... Went 12-1 with a 0.63 ERA and 154 strikeouts in 89.1ip as a senior after going 10-1 with a 0.99 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 71.0ip as a junior... Also pitched at the University of Texas... Posted a 6-3 record and 1.97 ERA as a sophomore and a 7-3 record and 2.13 ERA as a junior for the Longhorns... Tossed 7.0 innings in a combined no-hitter against Kansas State on May 16, 2014... His college career and junior season were cut short by Tommy John surgery following 2014 Big 12 Tournament.

Was acquired by the Pirates in exchange for cash considerations on 7/19; was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis...Made his first two appearances in relief (3.0ip/0r)... Pitched 5.0 hitless innings while picking up his first win with Indy on 8/7 at Iowa... Made a final Triple-A appearance in relief on 8/11 (1.0ip/1er)... Was recalled by Pittsburgh on 8/15 and started that afternoon vs. Milwaukee; gave up two runs (one earned) in 4.2ip and suffered the 2-1 loss... Allowed just one run in 5.0ip in his second start on 8/21 at St. Louis (no-decision)... Was on the 10-day injured list from 8/28 to 9/7 with a low back strain... Was reinstated on 9/7 and had a no-decision that day vs. Detroit (4.0ip/2er)... Pitched 5.0 scoreless innings while winning his first game on 9/14 vs. Cincinnati; was his first big league win since 9/24/19 while pitching with the Angels...Gave up four runs in 3.0ip while making his last start on 9/20 at Cincinnati... Overcame broken left thumb early in Minor League season and went 7-3 with a 1.57 ERA (63.0 ip/11 er) in 13 starts before earning his first MLB promotion in September... Had contract selected by Miami on September 1 and made MLB debut that night with a start vs. Philadelphia...Went 7.0 innings and struck out eight in debut, leaving in line for the win. Allowed just three hits and three walks.
