Douglas Andrew Mientkiewicz...he and his wife Jodi make their off-season home in Coral Gables, FL with their son Steel (10/11/05)... is a 1992 graduate of Westminster Christian High School in Miami, FL...played three seasons at Florida State University from 1993- 95...earned Baseball America Second-Team Freshman All-American honors in 1993...earned Second-Team All-ACC accolades in 1994 and 1995...played for Tommy Lasorda and the Gold Medal-winning Team USA squad at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia... signed by Twins scout Brad Weitzel.
2009
Made the club with an impressive Spring Training and was the Dodgers' main left-handed pinch-hitter until suffering a season-altering injury two weeks into the season...Signed a minor league contract on February 26 and made the Opening Day roster after batting .268 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 23 Spring Training games...Went 3-for-11 (.273) with a double and two RBI in 12 pinch-hit appearances...M issed 123 games with a dislocated right shoulder after injuring it sliding into second base for a two-run double on April 16 vs. San Francisco...Played in 14 rehab games, batting .293 (17-for-58) with two homers and 12 RBI for Single-A Inland Empire and Triple-A Albuquerque...After returning from his injury on Sept. 2, singled in his first pinch-hit at-bat....went 4-for-13 in 13 games after the injury...In the final game of the season vs. Colorado on Oct. 4, went 3-for-4 with an RBI...was his only start all year...was his first three-hit contest since Aug. 11, 2008 at New York.

Spent nearly entire season with New York (AL)...Made two errors in 507 total chances in 70 games (48 starts) at first base...Made debut with Yankees on 4/2 vs. Tampa Bay and went 1-for-1 with a sacrifice hit and run scored...Snapped an 0-for-24 stretch on 4/15 at Oakland, tying the longest hitless streak of his career...Homered for the first time on 4/17 vs. Cleveland, hitting a solo shot off Jake Westbrook...Batted .400 (12-for-30) with eight RBI and nine runs scored during season-high, nine-game hitting streak from 4/29 thru 5/10...Went 3-for-4 with a double, solo home run and two runs scored on 5/23 vs. Boston. ...Went 2-for-3 with an RBI on 6/2 at Boston before leaving the game in the bottom of the seventh inning after colliding with Mike Lowell at first base while trying to catch a throw by Derek Jeter (tests performed at Massachusetts General Hospital revealed a mild concussion, cervical sprain and fractured scaphoid bone in his right wrist)...Had surgery performed on 6/12 at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, undergoing a surgical screw fixation of the carpal nevicular bone in his right wrist (surgery performed by Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser)...Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 6/4 and transferred to the 60-day disabled list on 7/20...Hit safely in nine of his 10 rehab starts with Tampa (Yankees' A) and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Yankees' AAA)...Was recalled from his rehab assignment and reinstated from the disabled list on 9/1...Hit a three-run home run while going 2-for-4 with four RBI on 9/18 vs. Baltimore...Had a career-high tying four hits on 9/26 at Baltimore...Led American League with a .429 batting average (18-for-42) during the month of September.

Had a solid season with the Kansas City Royals before his season was cut short with back surgery on 8/29...hit .283 (89-for-314) with 4HR and 43RBI in 91 games (82 starts at first base)...posted his highest batting average since hitting .300 in 2003...hit three of his four home runs and drove in 20 of his 43RBI in the month of June...committed just three errors in 794 chances (.996 fielding percentage)...hit .333 (51-for-153) with a .400 on-base percentage at Kauffman Stadium...28 of his 43 RBI came at home...hit .236 (38-for-161) on the road...Hit .306 (19-for-62) in Interleague Play with 10R, 3HR and 15RBI...finished the season by hitting .311 (46-for-148) after May, including a .339 (21-for-62) mark in July...was hitting just .226 (24-106) through 5/14, but hit .313 (65-for-208) over his last 59 games to raise his average to a .283 mark by season's end...tied a career high with three runs scored on 6/29 at Cincinnati, going 3-for-5 with a solo-HR...hit in a season-high eight straight games from 6/29-7/7, batting .424 (.391) with 2HR and 10RBI during the stretch...Was part of back-to-back-to-back home runs with Angel Berroa and Tony Graffanino in the 1st inning on 5/25 vs. Detroit...it was the Royals first back-to-back-to-back homers since 5/31/02 at Texas...was placed on 15-day disabled list on 7/31 (retro to 7/26) with a strain in his lower back...had surgery on 8/29 to remove part of a herniated disc...surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins.

Spent his first season in the National League with the New York Mets, hitting .240 (66-for-275) with 11HR and 29RBI in 87 games (79 starts at first base)...struck out just 39 times while drawing 32 walks...collected his 1st career grand slam on 4/21 at Florida (2nd inning off Al Leiter)...had a season-high 4 RBI in the contest...gave the Mets a lead with six of his 11 home runs...hit solo home run (off Julio Santana) in the 8th inning on 5/7 to snap a 5-5 tie in a 7-5 win at Milwaukee...Hit solo home run off former teammate LaTroy Hawkins in the 8th inning on 5/9 at Chicago (NL) to snap a 4-4 tie and secure a 7-5 win...was placed on the 15-day disabled list from 6/26-7/16 with a strained right hamstring...posted his best month of the season in July, batting .314 (11-for-35)...was placed on the 15-day D.L. for a second time from 8/9 (retro to 8/4) - 9/2 with a sore lower back...hit safely in 14 of his final 21 games (with an at-bat), posting a .317 average (20-for-63) 8R, 6 doubles, 2HR and 5 RBI.
2004
Split the season between Minnesota and Boston, combining to hit .238 (93-for-391) with 6HR and 35RBI in 127 games (99 starts at first base, one start at second base)...was traded to the Red Sox on 7/31 as part of a four-team trade with the Chicago Cubs and Montreal Expos...hit .246 (70-284) with 5HR and 25 RBI in 78 games for the Twins prior to the trade...hit .215 (23-for-107) in 49 games (27 starts) for the World Champion Red Sox...compiled a .995 fielding percentage, the 5th-best mark among A.L. 1st basemen...put together a season-high eight-game hitting streak from 4/5-14, going 13-for-35 (.371) with 5 doubles...was placed on the 15-Day D.L. for the first time in his career from 7/15 (retro to 7/7) - 7/22 with a sore left wrist...made first career start at 2b on 8/16 vs. Toronto...appeared in 11 post-season games for Boston, hitting .444 (4-for-9) with 1 RBI.
