Elieser Alexis Hernández … (eh-LEE-eh-ser)…born May 3, 1995 in Ocumare del Tuy, Venezuela...signed as a 16-year-old out of Venezuela by the Houston Astros to a Minor League contract on May 31, 2012...Representing his native Venezuela in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

2023

Traded to the New York Mets on November 18, 2022. Started the season on the 60-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. Made rehab assignments with Single-A St. Lucie and Advanced-A Brooklyn, tossing a combined 0-1 record in six games (four starts) with a 2.45 ERA (two ER/7.1 IP). With Triple-A Syracuse, playing in two games before being placed on the injured list again on Aug. 13…went 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA (one ER/2.0 IP). Represented his native Venezuela in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

2022

Enjoyed three stints with Miami, making 10 starts in 20 games...Seven of his 10 relief appearances were scoreless...Matched his career-high of six innings pitched on April 17 vs. Philadelphia, last accomplished five times in 2019.

2021

Went 1-3 with a 4.18 ERA in 11 starts for Miami in 2021...Made his season debut April 3, starting against Tampa Bay in a game the Marlins won 12-7. Exited after 2.1 innings with what was later diagnosed as right biceps inflammation. Was placed on the 10-day IL the next day; and later transferred to the 60-day IL on May 22...Made his second start of the season June 3 in Pittsburgh where he pitched 5.0 innings and allowed one run on three hits and struck out six. Was removed from the game with a right quad strain while running the bases and placed on the 60-day IL...Pitched 5.0 innings or more in seven of his 11 starts. Held opponents to two runs or less in seven outings.

2020

Elieser (eh-LEE-eh-ser) Alexis Hernandez went 1-0 with a 3.16 ERA (9 ER/25.2 IP) in six games, all starts for the Marlins in 2020... Made his season debut on Aug. 5 in Baltimore. Worked 4.1 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits, striking out five... In his first four starts of the year went 1-0 with a 2.29 ERA, Striking out 25 in 19.2 innings. Allowed 12 hits and walked just three... Set a career-high in strikeouts on Aug. 16 against Atlanta, fanning nine in 5.0 innings and allowing just three hits. 

2019

Posted a 5.03 ERA (82.1 ip/46 er) in the Majors this year, going 3-4 with a 4.58 ERA (74.2/38) and 78 strikeouts in 15 starts, and 0-1 with a 9.39 ERA (7.2/8) and seven strikeouts over six relief appearances in 2019...He set new career highs with 130.1 innings pitched and 154 strikeouts combined between the two levels. His previous highs were 107.2 innings and 107 strikeouts, both set in 2016...He went 3-1 with a 1.13 ERA (48.0/6) and held opponents to a .194 average with 69 strikeouts in nine starts with New Orleans prior to being recalled on June 11. Despite making only nine starts, he ranked third in the Pacific Coast League in strikeouts at the time, with the top-two leaders each having made 11 starts...His first appearance for Miami came out of the bullpen on May 28 against San Francisco. He tossed 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk in an 11-3 victory. He was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on May 30, but made just one start before being recalled for the remainder of the season...He made his first MLB start of the season on June 11 against St. Louis, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk, with seven strikeouts, over 5.2 innings...The outing was part of five consecutive turns in the rotation, a stretch where he struck out six-or-more batters and allowed three-orfewer runs in each outing...He returned to the starting rotation on July 28 against the Diamondbacks, and would make 10 starts over the final stretch of the season. In that time, went 2-3 with a 5.46 ERA (29.1/18)...Made first appearance on April 6 vs. Winston-Salem, a 2.1-inning relief outing in which he earned win. Allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three...Made five consecutive starts from April 11-May 5, going 1-3 with 5.09 ERA (23.0/13)...On April 23 at Carolina, took loss despite giving up just two runs on four hits. Walked one and struck out season-high nine over 5.0 frames...In last appearance before landing on DL, tossed 4.1 relief innings on May 10 vs. Salem. Surrendered two runs and three hits while walking one and tying a season high with nine strikeouts...In three rehab appearances (two starts) with GCL Astros, went 1-0 with 1.80 ERA (10.0/2).
