Went 8-17 with a 4.30 ERA (84 ER/176.0 IP) over 32 starts in his 12th professional season, his second consecutive year making at least 30 starts and tossing more than 175.0 innings. Ended the year ranked second on the Padres staff in starts, third in innings and third in strikeouts. Wasone of just three pitchers on the staff to fan at least 100 batters. Pitched to a 3.21 ERA (36 ER/101.0 IP) over his final 17 starts of the season, compiling a 6-8 record with 70 strikeouts. Went 2-9 with a 5.76 ERA (48 ER/75.0 IP) in his first 15 starts of the season, surrendering 102 hits and fanning 41. Compiled a 2.52 ERA (10 ER/35.2 IP) in six August starts, going 3-2 with 22 strikeouts. For his career, he's gone 8-6 with a 3.28 ERA in 21 games (19 starts) over five Augusts, the only month in his career in whichhe's totaled an ERA under 3.50. Walked two batters or fewer in 25-of-32 starts on the season, and issued two or fewer walks in 33-of-40starts since 8/18/13. Made his Padres debut with a start on 5/19 vs. LAA, working 6.2 innings of two-run ball.
Made four starts from 5/19-6/3 going 1-2 with a 3.33 ERA (9 ER/24.1 IP) before landing on the 15-day DL on 6/7

Spent the entire season, and also his first season, in Japan playing for the Hiroshima Carp...finished the
season 6-10, 5.07 (124.1 ip, 70 er) in 21 starts...struckout 87 compared to walking 46...Of the 149 hits he allowed (.302 average) only 44 went for extra-bases, 23 of them as home runs...The Carp went 7-14 in his 21 starts...showed more success on the road (3-4, 3.74) compared to at home
(3-6, 6.34)...lefties hit .317 (57-for-180) off him while righties hit .293 (92-for-314)...Finished second on his club with 21 starts and 124.1 innings pitched...had the third-most strikeouts and
