Began his rehab from March 24, 2014 Tommy John surgery on April 23 but made just four starts before re-injuring the elbow May 8…started his rehab assignment with Class-A Stockton and went 1-1 with a 5.19 ERA in two starts…struck out eight and did not walk a batter in 8.2 innings…was transferred to Triple-A Nashville May 3 and went 1-0 with a 6.30 ERA in two starts with the Sounds…combined for a 2-1 record and a 5.79 ERA in his four starts…struck out 15 and walked two in 18.2 innings…tossed 5.2 innings in his final start May 8 against Round Rock…allowed five runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings for the win…left the game early with the elbow injury…underwent season-ending surgery May 19 with Dr. James Andrews at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Fla…his previous revised ulnar collateral ligament did not need repairing and the avulsed medial epicondyle fracture was cleaned up and repaired.
2014
Had no decisions and a 10.61 ERA in three spring training starts before it was announced he would undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career…was placed on the 60-day disabled list March 20 and had the surgery March 24…the surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in the Andrews Institute in Pensacola, Florida…also had Tommy John surgery Oct. 28, 2009 while a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
2013

Spent the entire season at Double-A Mobile, earning a promotion to Arizona after the BayBears won the
Southern League Championship...was selected by the Diamondbacks Sept. 19 and made one regular
season start in his Major League debut...faced Los Angeles (NL) Sept. 27 and had a no decision in
Arizona's 7-6, 10-inning win...tossed 5.2 shutout innings, yielded just four hits, walked a batter and
struck out one...retired the first seven batters he faced, including a strikeout of Jerry Sands with one out
in the first inning, his first big league strikeout...left the game with no score...the Dodgers scored five
times in the 10th but Arizona came back with six in the bottom of the inning for the win...also made
one postseason appearance in the NLDS against Milwaukee, a relief outing in Game 4...entered the
game in the sixth inning with the Diamondbacks leading 7-3 and allowed a run on two hits and a walk in
0.1 innings...was rated as Arizona's fourth-best prospect by Baseball America following the season...
was also rated as having the best slider in the organization...was later tabbed by as the A's number one
prospect following the trade.
MOBILE: Was 11-8 with a 3.79 ERA in 26 starts for Mobile...tied for second in the Southern League
in wins, ranked third in opponents batting average (.236) and fifth in ERA...tied for the league lead
in balks (3)...was third in the Diamondbacks farm system in wins, fifth in strikeouts (112) and 10th
in ERA...had career highs in starts, innings pitched (130.2), losses (8), runs (61), earned runs (55)
and walks (55)...his opponents batting average included a .209 (58-for-277) mark against right-handed
hitters, compared to .274 (54-for-197) and five of his seven home runs against left-handers...allowed
a .188 average to hitters leading off an inning...went 5-6 with a 4.87 ERA before the All-Star Break
