Never got on track during an injury plagued season in which he had two stints on the disabled list ... was batting .129 with no home runs and one RBI in 12 games when he went on the disabled list the first time on April 24 with a left shoulder strain ... missed 36 games and hit .364 (4 for 11) with two RBI in four games on rehab at Sacramento and Modesto before returning to Oakland on June 3 ... his struggles continued as he hit .197 with one home run and four RBI in 21 games before going on the disabled list a second time on July 9 with left shoulder tendinitis ... A's Team Orthopedist Dr ... Jerrald Goldman performed season ending surgery on his left shoulder on July 19 to repair extensive damage ... batted .175 in 33 games with Oakland with 33 walks, 38 strikeouts and three hit by pitches ... did not put the ball in play 55 ... 6% of the time, the highest such figure in Oakland history by a non-pitcher with at least 100 plate appearances ... previous high was 45 ... 8% by Rich Becker in 1999 ... tied a major league record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game when he fanned five times on April 20 at Cleveland ... became the fourth Oakland player and fifth Athletic to do so ... hit his lone home run on June 18 at Kansas City in the A's 21-3 win ... for the season, missed a total of 129 games ... missed 204 games with Milwaukee from 1997-98 before appearing in 142 games for the A's in 1999 en route to earning American League Comeback Player of the Year honors.

Also hit .276 while driving in 111 runs and was named to his first American League All-Star team ... Following the season he was named American League Comeback Player of the Year by The Sporting News ... Finished second on the A's in batting, home runs, RBI and walks ... Tied for third in the American League in walks and finished second in the majors to Arizona's Jay Bell (4.39) with an average of 4.38 pitches per plate appearance ... Also ranked third in the A.L. with an average of 4.1 at bats per RBI and seventh with 13.1 at bats per home run ... Signed a minor league contract with Oakland on February 17 and was the A's Opening Day starter at first base ... However, that was just one of five starts he would make at first as he spent most of the season at designated hitter where he made 121 starts ... Set Oakland designated hitter records in runs scored (93), walks (93) and slugging percentage (.580) and tied the record for home runs (35) ... Dave Kingman also hit 35 in 1984 and 1986 and that was the major league record for home runs by a designated hitter before Rafael Palmeiro hit 37 this year ... Jaha ranked second to Palmeiro among American League designated hitters in home runs and RBI (105) and his .285 batting average was fourth among designated hitters with 300 or more at bats ... Recorded his 100th career double on opening night, April 5, against New York ... Tied his career high with four hits on April 16 against Texas and also had his second four RBI game of the season ... Finished April with a .333 batting average along with 6 HR and 15 RBI in 22 games ... Average peaked after 32 games on May 18 as he was hitting .343 with 8 HR and 27 RBI ... Had just seven HR and 38 RBI in 73 games in all of 1998 ... Then went into a 20-game slump from May 19 to June 17 where he hit .200 (12 for 60) with 1 HR and 7 RBI ... Ended the slump in spectacular fashion at Detroit as he went 7 for 15 with 5 HR and 8 RBI in a four-game series, June 18-21 ... That included back-to-back two homer games on June 19 and 20 ... Had five two homer games in 1999 after entering the season with six for his career ... Then homered in consecutive games on June 24 at Texas and June 25 at Anaheim to give him seven home runs in an eight game span ... Had his average back up to .294 by July 3 and was named to his first ever All-Star team as the A's lone representative ... Struck out as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning in the All-Star Game at Boston ... Was 1 for 11 (.091) as a pinch hitter during the regular season ... Reached base via hit or walk in each of the first 19 games after the All-Star break and finished July with 9 HR and 25 RBI ... Homered in his first game in August to give him 18 home runs in a 39-game span from June 18 to August 1 ... That matched his entire output over 119 games in 1997 and 1998 combined ... Then went into a season long 16-game, 46-at bat homerless streak before going deep against the Blue Jays on August 21 ... Hit two home runs on August 24 against Cleveland, including his second grand slam of the season and seventh of his career ... Matched his career with five RBI in that game, one of three five-RBI games he had in 1999 ... Led the A's with eight games of four or more RBI ... Battled injuries for much of the season after being put on the 15-day disabled list April 23 with a ligamentous injury in his left foot ... He was injured when he stepped down wrong while rounding second base against Los Angeles on April 22 ... The injury caused him to miss all of May as he returned from the DL and a rehab assignment on June 8 ... Appeared in 73 games, hitting .208 on the season with seven home runs and 38 RBI ... Was 3 for 4 with an RBI in the club's first game as a member of the National League, March 31 at Atlanta ... Hit a grand slam April 21 against Los Angeles in the fifth inning off Ramon Martinez ... It was the fifth slam of his career, tying him for the club record with Cecil Cooper ... Went back on the DL August 16, retroactive to August 15, with a strained right hamstring and was activated on September 1 ... Had season ending surgery on September 18 to repair a mid-foot fracture in his left foot ... The surgery was performed in Houston by Dr. Donald Baxter ... The fracture was a result of his initial April 22 injury ... Was awarded the Brewers' 1998 Roberto Clemente True Value Man of the Year award for his Community Service work in the Portland and Milwaukee communities.
1997
Season was cut short on June 3 when he was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 1) with an inflamed left shoulder ... Underwent surgery June 17 to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder ... Surgery was performed by Dr. Frank Jobe at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood, California ... Had two home runs on April 19 at Cleveland, both off Charles Nagy ... It was his sixth career two homer game ... Also had a season high three RBI in that game which he matched on May 3 at Seattle ... Last home run of the season came on May 25 at Chicago off James Baldwin ... 10 of his 11 home runs came on the road ... His spring training home run total of seven was the most by a Milwaukee player since Ben Oglivie had eight in 1983 ... Collected 10 multi-hit games for a career total of 143 ... Was named the Brewers True Value Roberto Clemente Man of the Year for his work in the Milwaukee and Portland communities ... Earned the Michael Harrison Award for Community Service.
1996
Had a breakthrough season, setting career highs in at bats (543), runs (108), hits (163), doubles (28) and RBI (118) ... Led the club in runs, total bases (295), home runs (34), RBI and walks ... Became the first Milwaukee player to hit .300 with at least 30 homers and 100 RBI since Cecil Cooper batted .307 with 30 homers and 126 RBI in 1983 ... It was the fourth time the feat had been accomplished and he was the third player to do it (Ben Oglivie in 1980 and Cooper in 1982-83) ... Picked up his 100th RBI on September 2 vs. Cleveland, a single to left off Kent Mercker ... Became the first Milwaukee player to drive in 100 runs since Robin Yount had 103 in 1989 ... RBI total was the most by a Brewers' player since Cooper drove in a club record 126 in 1983 ... His 34 homers were the most by a Milwaukee player since Rob Deer hit 33 in 1986 ... Became the sixth player with 30 home runs and 100 RBI in Brewers history (10th time) ... Became the first Brewer to score 100 runs (108) since 1991 when Paul Molitor had 133 ... Matched his career high with two home runs in a game on two occasions: June 13 vs. Oakland and June 27 at Kansas City ... Hit a grand slam on June 16 off Oakland's Doug Johns, the fourth of his career.

Was hit by a pitch 10 times, ranking third in the AL in that category ... Had two multi-homer games, April 27 at Minnesota and May 25 against Baltimore ... Optioned to New Orleans on July 8 when his average dipped to .228 ... Recalled on July 29 from New Orleans after batting .403 with two homers and 16 RBI in 18 games ... In his final 13 games with the Brewers he batted .300 with three homers and 11 RBI ... Posted a .989 fielding mark at first base ... ... 1995 ... ... ... Led the Brewers in home runs (20) and batted a career high .313 ... Set a club record with three grand slams (April 26 vs. Chicago, August 16 at Texas and September 4 at Minnesota) ... The slam vs. the White Sox was in the season opener ... Ranked third in the AL in batting average with an 0-2 count (.345) ... Committed just two errors in 711 total chances, compiling a .997 fielding percentage ... Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 21 with a pulled left groin and was activated on June 6 ... Was on the 15-day disabled list from June 24 to July 27 with a strained right groin ... Batted .351 in 16 games during June ... Had a torrid August, hitting .323 with 18 runs scored, four doubles, nine home runs and 24 RBI ... Set a career-high for hits in a game with four on two separate occasions (August 4 at Baltimore and August 17 at Cleveland) ... Set a career high for RBI with five on August 16 at Texas.
1993
Had a .337 on-base percentage ... Hit .303 with runners in scoring position ... Had 34 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games ... Ranked eighth in the league among first basemen with a .992 fielding mark ... Also played one game at second base and third base ... Had his first career multi-homer game on September 26 in Cleveland.

Split the season between Denver of the Triple-A American Association and the Brewers ... Led the American Association in RBI (69), ranked second in homers (18) and was third in average (.321) when he was recalled by the Brewers on July 9 ... Made his major league debut that day against Kansas City ... Collected his first big league hit on July 10, a single off of Kansas City's Tom Gordon ... Had his first RBI on July 11 off the Royals Neal Heaton ... Hit his first home run off Rod Nichols on July 28 at Cleveland ... Stole a club record four bases in a game on September 12 at Baltimore ... When he stole his 10th base of the season on September 24, he gave the Brewers 11 players with 10 or more steals in the same season which tied the major league record held by the 1901 Phillies.
