Full name is Luis Arias Vizcaino...he and his wife, Esmerelda, make their home in his native Bani, Dominican Republic...was signed by Santiago Villalona (Oakland) at the age of 17 as a non-drafted free agent.
2008
In his lone season with the Rockies, appeared in 43 games for the big league club, going 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA ... he struck out 49 hitters in 46.0 innings as his 9.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched was second-highest on the club. © With 49 strikeouts and 19 walks his 2.58 strikeout/walk ratio was the third-best on the club behind only Brian Fuentes (3.73) and Taylor Buchholz (3.11). © Allowed more hits (48) than innings pitched (46.0) for the first time since 2005 with the White Sox (74 H, 70.0 IP). © Opponents hit .267 (48-for-180) against him with left-handed hitters at .372 (32-for-86) and right-handed hitters at .170 (16-for-94). Quietly put together another impressive campaign out of the bullpen, going 4-6 with a 3.58 ERA in a team-high 70 appearances in his only season with the Arizona Diamondbacks...has appeared in at least 70 games in four of the last five season (2002-'06)...has appeared in a total of 359 games over that same five-season span, ranking fifth in the Majors...his 70 appearances in 2006 were the sixth-highest single-season total in Diamondbacks franchise history...allowed only 51 hits in 65.1IP...recorded 25 "holds", tied for seventh in the Majors and third in the National League...For the season, opponents batted .215 (51-for-237, 8HR); LH .163 (17-for-104, 2HR), RH .256 (34-for-133, 6HR)...limited opponents to a .194 average (18-for-93) with runners on base, sixth-best by an N.L. reliever...stranded 13 of 18 inherited base-runners, including all six after 7/5...retired the first batter faced in 47 of 70 games (67%)...Made his Arizona debut on 4/3 at Colorado, and retired all six batters faced (2K)...equaled his career best with 3K during a scoreless inning of work on 5/10 at Pittsburgh...did not allow a run in 10 consecutive appearances from 5/21-6/11...allowed 7ER in 2.1IP from 6/18-28...without that stretch his season ERA would have been 2.71...opponents hit just .160 (13-for-81) against him from 8/1-through the end of the season...retired 24 of 29 batters faced from 8/1-20, totaling 8.1 scoreless innings...made 400th career appearance on 9/2 at Washington, tossing 1.2 perfect innings (3K).

Went 6-5 with a 3.73 ERA in 65 relief appearances in his lone season with the World Champion Chicago White Sox...ranked fourth on the club in appearances and second in relief wins...posted a 4.46 ERA before the All-Star Break, then a solid 2.60 ERA (8ER in 27.2 IP) after the Midsummer Classic...surrendered just eight home runs, down from 16 in 2003 and 12 in 2004...did not record a save in three opportunities, suffering blown saves on 4/23 at Kansas City, 5/10 at Tampa Bay and 5/22 at Cubs...opponents hit .275 (74-for-269)...had a 1.86 ERA (48.11 IP, 10 ER) at night, compared to 7.89 ERA (21.2 IP, 19 ER) during the day...47 of his 65 appearances were scoreless and he tossed more than 1.0 inning on 33 occasions...worked a season-high 2.1 innings three times...Earned first win on 4/13 at Cleveland...tossed 2.1 scoreless innings on 6/29 at Detroit, his longest outing without a run allowed since 5/2/02 vs. Atlanta (2.2 IP)...his best stretch was from 6/24-8/30 when he allowed just 3ER in 27.2IP (0.98 ERA) over 26 appearances...17 of his final 20 appearances of the season were scoreless...tossed a 1.0 scoreless inning in Game 3 of the World Series at Houston, his first career post-season appearance...did not pitch in the ALDS and ALCS.

Led Milwaukee with 73 appearances, his third straight season with 70 or more ... limited opponents to a .228 (61-267) average overall and left-handers to a .163 (21-129) average, second-lowest among NL relievers ... was 1-5 in save situations ... save came on 9/29 at Arizona ... stranded 68.6 percent (24-35) of inherited runners ... first batters hit .239 (16-67) ... went 1.0 IP or more in 57 of his 73 appearances, with season high of 2.0 IP on 6/8 at Anaheim and 8/10 at Atlanta ... struck out at least one batter in each of final 11 outings ... compiled a 2.88 ERA (13 ER/40.2 IP) in the first half and 4.88 (17 ER/31.1 IP) after the break ... ERA was 4.10 (17 ER/37.1 IP) at home and 3.38 (13 ER/34.2 IP) on the road ... posted a 1.80 ERA in June (2 ER/10.0 IP) ... ERA was season-high 4.31 after giving up three runs in back-to-back outings on 8/21 and 8/25, but allowed just three earned runs in 15.2 IP over his last 16 games to lower final ERA to 3.75.

Was the tale of two halves as he struggled in the first half, but rebounded after the All-Star Break . . . had an 8.05 ERA before the Break in 42 games and a 4.28 mark in 33 games after . . . gave up runs in 24 of his team-leading 75 appearances and multiple runs in 14 of those 24 games . . . surrendered a career-high 16 home runs including 11 before the All-Star Break . . . in August and September, he was 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 28 games . . . equaled career-high with three strikeouts on August 7 vs Atlanta . . . righthanders hit .269 against him while lefties batted . 253 . . . allowed opposing hitters to bat just .186 after the All-Star Break . . . allowed 12 of 45 (27%) inherited runners to score . . . was 0-5 in save opportunities . . . worked four consecutive games, June 16 - 19 and August 27 - 30 . . . had an 11-game, 10.2 scoreless inning streak from July 27 - August 16 in which he only allowed two hits.

Established career highs in wins, losses, appearances, saves, innings pitched and strikeouts ... tied for third, with Ray King, on the Brewers All-Time Top Ten list with 76 appearances ... ended the season with a career-high two-game losing streak ... scoreless in 11 appearances in July spanning 12.0 innings ... established a career-high scoreless innings streak tossing 16.2 scoreless frames spanning 15 appearances from June 27 to August 4 ... also tossed 11.1 scoreless frames from April 17-May 4 ... also strung together a personal-best five-game winning streak from April 14-June 27 ... converted career-high five saves on September 17 vs Houston, August 28 vs Chicago, July 26 vs Colorado, July 24 at Houston and April 19 vs St. Louis ... was 5-6 in save opportunities suffering a blown save May 19 vs Chicago ... scoreless in 80% (61-76) of his appearances and pitched more than one inning in 78 % (59-76) of his appearances ... handcuffed opposing hitters limiting them to a .192 average ... held lefthanders to a .225 average and righthanded hitters to a .170 mark ... allowed 15% (six of 39) inherited runners to score ... finished the season tied for tenth among National League pitchers with 76 appearances.
2001
Had two separate stints with the A's and posted a 2-1 record with one save and a 4.66 ERA in 36 relief appearances...pitched better at the Coliseum as he recorded a 1.59 ERA and allowed a .158 opponents batting average in 16 outings in Oakland...began the season at Triple-A Sacramento but was brought up to Oakland on April 14 after appearing in just two games with the River Cats...made five appearances with Oakland, all against Texas before he was optioned back to Sacramento on April 24...recorded seven saves during his second stint with the River Cats...finished second on the team in saves for the season behind Chad Harville (8)...posted a 2.14 ERA in 27 relief appearances overall in Sacramento and allowed a .220 opponents batting average...right-handers batted .168 against at Sacramento...was brought back to Oakland on July 15 and recorded his first major league save that day against Colorado...tied his career high with three strikeouts on July 18th...recorded his first major league win on August 6 at Detroit...was not on the A's post-season roster...made 13 appearances for Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League and was 0-1 with one save and a 3.18 ERA.

Had three separate stints with the A's, appearing in a total of 12 games ... made the A's opening day roster after posting a 2.03 ERA in nine spring training appearances ... appeared in four games during his first stint (8.1 ip, 11 h, 6 r, 5 er, 4 bb, 9 so), including a season high 3.0 innings on April 8 against Chicago ... optioned to Sacramento on April 18 and went 0-1 with a 18.56 ERA in two starts for the River Cats before he was brought back to Oakland on April 30 ... spent most of the month of May with Oakland and was 0-1 in six relief appearances (10.0 ip, 13 h, 9 r, 9 er, 6 bb, 7 so) ... sent back to Sacramento on May 27 and allowed just one run in six relief appearances (9.2 ip, 1 h, 4 bb, 6 so) before he was recalled for his third stint with the A's on June 17 ... made two appearances on consecutive days on June 18 and 19 (1.0 ip, 1 h, 2 r, 2 er, 1 bb, 2 so) and was optioned to Sacramento for the third time on June 21 ... finished the Oakland portion of his campaign 0-1 with a 7.45 ERA in 12 relief appearances ... spent the rest of the season with the River Cats and went 5-1 with five saves and a 4.05 ERA (15 er in 33.1 ip) over his final 25 appearances, all in relief ... including 2-0 with three saves and a 1.64 ERA over an eight game stretch from July 6 to 29 ... fared better at the River Cats home park, Raley Field, where he was 5-1 with four saves, a 2.40 ERA and a .189 opponents batting average in 21 relief appearances ... compared to 1-1 with a 9.33 ERA, one save and a .380 opponents batting average in 12 games, two starts, on the road ... allowed a .276 (48 for 174) opponents average overall, including .248 (27 for 109) against left handers ... had a loss in two post-season appearances with Sacramento (1.2 ip, 3 h, 3 r, 3 er, 2 bb, 2 so).
1999
Made his major league debut in 1999 with one relief appearance with the A's ... Was called up from Double-A Midland on July 23 following the Kenny Rogers trade and made his debut that night in Kansas City ... Entered the game in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and two outs with the A's trailing 10-6 ... Got Beltran to ground out to end the threat but ended up allowing two runs on three hits and three walks in 3.1 innings while striking out two ... Optioned back to Midland the next day ... Spent the bulk of his season with the Rockhounds where he was 8-7 with a 5.85 ERA (68 er in 104.2 ip) in 25 games, 19 starts ... Led the club with 88 strikeouts and finished second in wins, starts and innings pitched ... Went 0-4 with a 9.32 ERA over his first seven starts before picking up the win in his first relief appearance on May 22 against Tulsa ... Did not allow a run in his final two outings before joining Oakland, tossing 5.0 shutout innings in a no decision on July 12 against Shreveport and 7.0 shutout innings in a win over Jackson on July 18 ... Was 4-6 with a 6.47 ERA at the time of his recall and then went 4-1 with a 3.75 ERA over six games, two starts, when he returned to Midland ... Was promoted to Vancouver on August 21 and went 0-1 with a 1.38 ERA in seven regular season relief appearances with the Canadians ... Had no decisions and a 4.70 ERA in five relief appearances in the post season for Vancouver as the Canadians won the Pacific Coast League Championship and the Triple-A World Series ... Combined at Midland and Vancouver for a 8-8 record and a 5.35 ERA in 32 games, 19 starts ... Allowed a .284 opponents batting average which broke down to .246 (65 for 264) against right handers and .333 (68 for 204) against left handers ... Pitched for Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League and was 3-1 with a 1.00 ERA in 13 relief appearances ... Allowed 10 hits, 11 walks and no home runs while striking out 34 in 27.0 innings.
1998
Opened the season at Class A Modesto, but earned a promotion to Double A Huntsville in late July ... posted a combined 9-5 record with a 3.26 ERA in 30 games, 23 starts ... allowed a .220 opponents batting average which broke down to .195 against right handers and .251 against left handers ... had a four-game winning streak over his last 12 appearances at Modesto before he was promoted to Huntsville on July 29 ... was 6-3 with a 2.74 ERA in 23 games, 16 starts, at the time of his promotion ... allowed a .196 opponents batting average and struck out 108 in 102.0 innings ... made seven appearances at Huntsville, all starts, and went 3-2 with a 4.66 ERA ... made one relief appearance in the post-season for the Stars ... went 4-1 with a 3.60 ERA in eight relief appearances with Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League.
1997
Began the year in extended spring training, but was moved up to Modesto on May 22 ... made seven relief appearances with the A's and posted a 13.19 ERA before he was moved to Southern Oregon on June 14 when the Northwest League season started ... continued to struggle with the Timber Jacks, posting a 1-6 record and 7.93 ERA in 22 games, five starts.
1996
Spent his first year in the United States with the A's affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League ... was 6-3 with a save and a 4.07 ERA in 15 games, 10 starts ... tied for third in the league in wins ... led the A's in wins, starts, and innings pitched and was second in strikeouts ... allowed just one home run in 59.2 innings ... named Arizona League Pitcher of the Week, August 26 - 31.
1995
