Reyes Moronta #45

Reyes Armando Moronta was born and raised in a town of 700 people called Quinigua in the Villa González district of the Santiago Province of the Dominican Republic...married Ivelka Felin in January 2020...during off days he enjoys playing billiards, listening to music, playing dominos, spending time with family and he loves taking nature walks…signed with the San Francisco Giants as an international free agent in September 2010 at 17 years old.

2022

Combined to go 2-2 with a 4.30 ERA (18 ER/37.2 IP) over 39 relief appearances with LAD and ARI…career-high 14 games finished…opponents batted .214/.311/.371/.682…had five stints with Dodgers after contract was selected on 4/24: 4/24- 5/14, 6/14-18, 6/24-7/4, 7/14-25, 8/5-19…was designated for assignment on 8/20 and acquired by ARI in 8/22 waiver claim… reported to D-backs on 8/25 for duration of the year and was not tendered a contract offer on 11/18, making him a free agent.

2021

Appeared in just four games last year in the big leagues in April…posted a 0-0 record with a 2.25 ERA (1 ER/4.0 IP) with the Giants along with two punchouts, three walks and wrestled batters to a .231 average... His only two strikeouts in the Major Leagues last year came on April 10 at home against Colorado in 1.0 innings... Spent the rest of his time in the minors with Triple- A Sacramento…took the mound in 24 games and went 0-2 with a 11.00 ERA (18.0 IP/22 ER)…struck out 19 batters and walked 26 with a 2.67 WHIP.

2020

Did not play, as he was recovering from a right shoulder strain he suffered last season but did train at the Alternate Training Site in Sacramento.

2019

His second full season in a Giants uniform was cut short due to a right shoulder strain suffered at the end of August... Went 3-7 with a 2.86 ERA (18er, 56.2ip) along with 70 strikeouts and 33 walks in 56 relief appearances prior to the injury... Posted an 11.1 strikeout/9IP ratio, the highest of his career along with a 5.24 walk/9IP ratio, also the highest of his brief career... Made his second consecutive Opening Day roster with the Giants... Made his season debut March 30 at SD and registered a career-best five strikeouts in 2.0-scoreless innings... Did not allow a run in 10 appearances during June (9.1 innings) and did not allow a run in a season-best 12 appearances spanning 12.1 innings from May 26-June 29... Had a 4.15 ERA in 11 games during August before being sidelined with his season-ending injury on August 31... Forced to leave the game on August 31 vs. San Diego in the 6th inning with an acute right shoulder strain... Moronta was summoned to relieve starter Logan Webb with a runner on second base and two outs in a 1-1 game, but he immediately fell to the ground after throwing a 2-0 fastball to Luis Urías, prompting team athletic trainer Anthony Reyes and manager Bruce Bochy to rush out from the dugout... Moronta appeared to be in significant pain, lying on the ground for a few minutes before walking off the field with Reyes clutching Moronta's right arm... Placed on the 60-day injured list on September 4 with a right shoulder strain... Underwent season-ending surgery on September 10 performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles to address his injured labrum and capsule...during surgery, it turned out the capsule did not need to be repaired... Is expected to be out until at least August 2020.

2018

Made an Opening Day roster for the first time in his career...was originally optioned to triple-A on March 12, but was later added back to the roster for the Bay Bridge Series against the A's at the end of spring due to SF's injuries...Went 5-2 with a 2.49 ERA (18er, 65.0ip) in 69 games for the Giants...His 69 appearances ranked as the second-most by a Giants rookie pitcher in SF-era history (Elias Sosa, 1973, 71 gms)...Limited opponents to .154 avg. against, the third-lowest figure among NL relievers (Hader, .132, Doolittle, .135)...His 41 inherited runners led SF and ranked as the eighth-most in the NL...allowed just nine of his last 41 IR to score (22%), the seventh-lowest figure in the National League...Set the Giants record for fewest hits per 9.0 innings (4.71), with a minimum of 50.0ip...prior to Moronta, Steve Reed had the fewest hits allowed per 9.0 innings in 1998 (4.90) (Baseball Info Solutions)...First batters faced were just 2-for-55 (.036) off him... however, allowed 13 walks to his first batters faced...Opponents were 0-for-10 off him with the bases loaded. 

2017

Split his seventh professional campaign between double-A Richmond and triple-A Sacramento and was also a Sept. call-up for San Francisco...Was recalled from triple-A Sacramento Sept. 5 and allowed two runs in 6.2 innings, covering seven games...Was recalled twice...was on SF's roster on May 10, but did not appear in the game...Made his Major League debut on Sept. 5 at Colorado and allowed one run in 0.2 of an inning...Struck out 11 batters in 6.2 innings of work (14.85 strikeouts per 9.0 innings)...Appeared in 19 games with double-A Richmond, posting a 4.00 ERA with five saves...Made 13 appearances with triple-A Sacramento, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.12 ERA (4er, 17.0ip).

2016

Was named to the mid-season California League All-Star team...led the league in appearances and finished tied for third with 14 saves. Recorded 13 out of his 14 saves in the second half of the season. Struck out 93 batters over 59.0 innings, putting up a 2.59 ERA and notching 14 saves in 18 chances. Was added to the Giants' 40-man roster over the winter.

2015

Spent the entire season pitching out of the Augusta (A) bullpen...led the GreenJackets with 12 saves and was 1-7 with a 5.73 ERA in 42 relief appearances.

2014

Led the the AZL Giants (Rookie) with five saves...struck out 30 batters over 19.1 innings.

2013

Worked as a starting pitcher for Salem-Keizer (short-season).
