Lovelady spent most of the 2022 season working his way back from an injury suffered in 2021¡he returned to the mound in Sept. and pitched 4.0 scoreless innings over four appearances, including 3 with Triple-A Omaha¡he struck out nine of the 15 batters he faced and allowed just one hit and one walk.

Allowed runs in just three of his first 15 appearances (April 9-May 17), pitching to a 3.55 ERA (5 ER in 12.2 IP)… however, he surrendered runs in nine of his last 10 outings (May 22-Aug. 20), posting a 14.73 ERA (12 ER in 7.1 IP) ... Suffered all three of his defeats in August: Aug. 2 at Minnesota (11-9), Aug. 7 at Boston (5-4) and Aug. 8 at Detroit (10-8)… his Aug. 7 defeat at Fenway was actually completed on Aug. 22, after the originally scheduled game was suspended due to rain in the 10th inning…he was optioned to Omaha (AAA) following the completion of the suspended game ...
