Samuel Timothy Coonrod graduated from Carrollton High School (IL), where he played baseball, football and basketball, before attending Southern Illinois University¨CCarbondale.

Began the season on the IL with a right shoulder strain and was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 14...Appeared in nine rehab games between Clearwater (A) and Lehigh Valley (AAA)...Was reinstated from the 60-day IL on Aug. 15...Made his season debut on Aug. 19 vs. the Mets and worked 2.0 scoreless innings allowing one hit, while striking out three...Did not allow an earned run in eight of his first nine appearances...Was optioned to Lehigh Valley on Sept. 20 for the remainder of the season.
2021
Spent his first season with the Phillies...Posted a 0.95 ERA (2 ER, 19.0 IP) through his first 17 appearances...Did not allow a run in his first 10 career games (12.0 IP) at Citizens Bank Park...Placed on 10-day IL with right forearm tendinitis, 6/24, and was transferred to 60-day IL on 8/12, remaining there until 8/23; included rehab assignments to Lehigh Valley (AAA), 7/18-21 and 8/17-23...Made two starts (9/5 at MIA as an opener, 9/10 vs COL), the only two of his career...Averaged 10.20 SO/9.0 IP (48 SO, 42.1 IP) and had at least one strikeout in 15 of his final 18 appearances.

Appeared in only 18 games with SF due to two IL stints: 7/31-8/22 (right lat strain) and 9/26 through the remainder of the season (right shoulder strain)...Recorded his first ML save, 8/30 at ARI.

Made his Major League debut in what was his sixth professional season in the Giants' organization... Went 5-1 with a 3.58 ERA (11er, 27.2ip) in 33 relief appearances for San Francisco, holding opponents to a .202 average against... Recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on May 26 replacing LHP Andrew Suarez on the roster... Made his big league debut May 26 vs. Arizona, entering with the Giants trailing 6-2 in the 8th inning...in front of several family and friends, he pitched a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout... Appointed as the 26th man for the Giants-Rockies doubleheader on July 15 at Coors Field...appeared in Game 1, pitching 1.0-scoreless inning...returned to Triple-A following Game 2...Recalled for third and final time July 22 vs. Chicago-NL... Earned his first Major League win on July 23 vs. Chicago-NL with a scoreless 13th inning... struck out Javier Baez and Kris Bryant before getting Anthony Rizzo to ground out to second base. Pitched 1.0 scoreless inning on September 5 at St. Louis...was originally born in St. Louis but grew up in Carrollton, IL, attending Carrollton High School...the city is about an hour north of St. Louis... Prior to his big league callup had spent the entire year with triple-A Sacramento, posting a record of 2-4 with a 6.96 ERA (25er, 32.1ip) in 33 games (one start).
2018
26-year-old spent most of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery...Did not make his season debut until July 30...Ranked No. 30 on MLB Pipeline's organizational prospects list, he struck out 23 in 11.2 innings over 10 appearances, which were divided between rookie league Arizona and Class A Advanced San Jose...Added to the Giants' 40-man roster on November 20.
2016
In his third professional season, Coonrod split the campaign between Class A Advanced San Jose (5-3, 1.98 ERA) and double-A Richmond (4-3, 3.03 ERA), combining for a 9-6 record and a 2.55 ERA in 24 starts...Named a California League mid-season All-Star while playing for San Jose and earned CAL Player of the Month honors for May after going 5-0 with a 0.57 ERA in five starts...allowed just two runs in 31.1 innings...Entered the season as the Giants' sixth-best prospect by Baseball America and MLB.com...Was a non-roster invitee to Giants' Major League spring training for the first time.
2015
Spent the entire season with Augusta (A) and posted a 7-5 record with a 3.14 ERA (39er, 111.2ip) in 23 games...His 114 strikeouts ranked as the fourth-most in the South Atlantic League...Was named South Atlantic League's "Best Pitching Prospect" in Baseball America's Best Tools edition...also voted as having the "Best Breaking Pitch" in the South Atlantic League...Was named SAL Pitcher of the Week for July 20-27, 2015...Ranked as the Giants' sixth-best prospect according to Baseball America entering the 2016 season.
