Missed the entire season with right shoulder injury...was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 3/30 with bursitis of the right shoulder...had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder to repair a partial tear of his rotator cuff on 5/20...the surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala.

2002

Acquired in the off-season from Oakland, spent the majority of the season starting at Triple-A Buffalo before a late season switch to short relief at the big league level...was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on 3/29 after failing in his bid for the fifth starter spot against Bartolo Colon...started the season in the Buffalo rotation and made six starts before being placed on the disabled list on 5/8 with stiff neck...was activated from the DL on 5/25 and made four more starts before being placed on the DL for the second time at Buffalo on 6/11 with a right shoulder impingement...missed five weeks before being activated on 7/15...made three more starts for the Bisons before being recalled by the Tribe on 7/31 after the Indians went 17.0 IP the night before at Seattle...made his Indians debut in relief that night at Oakland (0.2 IP, 0 R, 1 K)...was tagged with the loss in his second appearance the next day in Oakland on 8/1, allowing a HR to Matt Stairs to lead off the 10th inning...made his only start of the season for the Indians on 8/11 vs. Texas, falling to 0-2 in the 2-1 Texas win (6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR)...was optioned back to Buffalo on 8/25...recalled for a second and final time by the Indians on 9/4, making five relief appearances over the final month of the season, going 0-0 with a 8.31 ERA (8.2 IP, 14 H, 8 ER)...following the season he pitched for Santurce in the Puerto Rican League, compiling a mark of 3-1 with a 3.19 ERA in seven games (5 GS, 31.0 IP, 32 H, 11 ER, 4 BB, 25 K).

Acquired from the A's on 12/8 for Mike Fetters, who was acquired earlier in the day from Milwaukee along with Ben McDonald and Mike Fetters in exchange for Marquis Grissom and Jeff Juden...completed his comeback from two elbow surgeries, including "Tommy John" surgery on 6/16/95, as he opened the season in the A's starting rotation...made a team leading 24 starts even though his season ended early on 8/6 when he was placed on the 15-day D.L. with right elbow tendinitis...also led the A's with 92 strikeouts and was second with 132.2 IP...had pitched just 62.0 innings over the previous three seasons because of his elbow problems...his first start on 4/4 vs. New York was his first in the Majors since 4/25/94 at Baltimore...followed that up with another no decision in an A's win, but then went 0-5 with a 5.77 ERA over his next seven starts...struck out a career high 12 and allowed just one run in six innings on 4/26 vs. KC...picked up his first win on 5/23 at Minnesota, tossing a season high 7.2 innings (3 ER, 6 K)...it was his first victory in the Majors since 4/9/94, also at Minnesota, a span of three years, 43 days between wins...the A's were 7-17 in his 24 starts...won-lost percentage of .200 (3-12) ranked last in the Majors.

1996

Made five spring training appearances with Oakland and was 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 6.0 innings...allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out four, but ended up spending his entire season at Class-A Modesto...started all 14 of his outings at Modesto but was used sparingly as he came back from elbow surgery, pitching more than three innings just once...walked just one batter while striking out 31 in 34.0 innings...pitched two scoreless innings against San Jose on 4/6, but suffered a minor set back to the elbow and was shut down for nearly two months...returned on 6/1 with a perfect inning at Visalia...did not allow an earned run over his first seven starts (15.0 IP)...last outing came on 8/8 vs. Lake Elsinore.

1995

Came to spring training after missing most of 1994 following arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage damage in his elbow...pitched in three games and was 0-1 with a 23.14 ERA...last outing was on 4/21, a scoreless inning vs. Milwaukee...was placed on the disabled list prior to opening day and remained on the D.L. the entire season following elbow surgery...on 6/16, Dr. James Andrews performed "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow...he reconstructed the ulnar collateral ligament with a palmaris longus graft and anterior ulnar nerve transposition.

1994

Started the year in the A's rotation and was off to a promising start when elbow problems surfaced and led to surgery which effectively ended his season...Dr. Lewis Yocum performed the arthroscopic surgery 5/10 in Los Angeles to repair cartilage damage...made four starts in April prior to the surgery and was one of the most effective starting pitchers for the A's...had one loss, a 2-0 decision to Roger Clemens at Fenway Park on 4/20...was his first career complete game as he matched Clemens zero for zero for six innings before Boston punched across two seventh inning runs for the win...elbow problems began to surface following that start in Boston.

1993

Started the year at Double-A Knoxville (Toronto Blue Jays) club but by the end of the season was a solid member of the Oakland Athletics starting rotation...traded to the Athletics for Rickey Henderson just minutes prior to the 7/31 trading deadline...at Knoxville was 8-4 with a 3.38 ERA in 19 games, 18 starts...after the trade just moved over to the A's affiliate in the same league at Huntsville...made two starts at Huntsville and was 0-0 with a 5.14 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 14.0 innings...struckout a season best 13 in his first start with Huntsville on 8/6 vs. Chattanooga...with the two double-A teams combined to go 8-4 with a 3.58 ERA (118.0 IP, 47 ER, 35 BB, 122 K) in 21 games (20 starts)...in a Baseball America poll was named the Southern League's pitcher with the best control and best breaking ball...was brought to Oakland on 8/16 and he made his ML debut vs. Milwaukee at the Coliseum on 8/17...struckout the first hitter he faced (Pat Listach) and went on to record the win pitching 6.1 innings.

1992

At Dunedin of the Florida State League tossed a one-hitter in his first start of the season 4/13 at Baseball City...did not pitch from 4/24-6/23 due to a sore right elbow...struck out a season-high 13 in win over St. Petersburg on 8/17...was 3-0 with a 1.55 ERA in his last four starts (29.0 IP, 36 K).

1991

In his first full season pitched at Myrtle Beach in the South Atlantic League...wound up 4-9 but struck out 100 hitters in 110.2 innings...struckout a season high 13 in a no decision vs. Asheville 4/27...that fall had arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow.

1990

Was Toronto's first round selection (22nd overall) in the June draft...pitched his first summer at St. Catherines in the New York-Penn League and after allowing just 2 ER in 22.2 innings with 25 K was named the league's second best prospect by Baseball America.
