Full name TRAVIS LEE HAFNER...Married, wife's name is Amy...One son, Blake Lee...Played 2 seasons at Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, KS (graduated '97)...Earned junior college all-American honors in 1997 and was MVP of JUCO World Series, hitting 3-run homer in 4-2 win over Seminole (OK) JC in the championship game...Played basketball and ran track at Sykeston (ND) High School (graduated '95)... Earned all-region honors in basketball and finished 3rd in state in discus and triple jump in senior year...Participated in Little League, Babe Ruth League, and American Legion baseball programs...Nickname is "Pronk"... Season got off to a solid start before a pair of disabled list stints beginning in mid-May derailed his season...Was hitting .345 (39-113) thru the first 32 games of the season with 8 2B, 5HR & 22 RBI thru May 17 (.958OPS)...Placed on 15-day DL on May 18 after injuring his right oblique in batting practice in Chicago that night...Was activated on June 17...After activation he hit .245 (52-212) with 8 2B, 8 HR & 35 RBI in 62 games thru the end of the season (.732OPS)...Was also on the 15-day DL from August 22-September 10 with a strained tendon in his right foot which bothered him at various points throughout the season and forced him to miss several games in late April/early May... Season and production were curtailed due to a right shoulder injury that put him on the disabled list for 106 days from May 26-Sept. 8 and required surgery after the season...Hit .208 (20-96) in April with 3 2B, 3HR & 15RBI in 25 games and was hitting .217 (34-157) w/9 2B, 4HR & 22RBI in 46 games on the season before being placed on the 15-day DL on May 30 (retro to May 26) with instability, inflammation & weakness in the right shoulder joint...Strengthened the shoulder for 2 months in Cleveland before beginning a 20-day rehab assignment at AAA Buffalo on August 18 (.318, 7-22) and later joined AA Akron in the Eastern League playoffs (2-6, 2HR, 6RBI, 2G)...Activated off the DL on Sept. 9 and over the last 3 weeks of the season he hit .122 (5-41) w/1 2B, 1HR & 2RBI in 11 GS at DH (.217 OB%, .220SLG, .437OPS)...Was 1 for last 22... Travis' 42 home runs are tied for the 8th highest total in club history w/Trosky ('36) & Colavito ('59) as he became just the 2nd Indian EVER w/40HR, 100BB, 100RS & 100RBI in same season (Thome '97, '01-02)... Had a tremendous offensive season, putting himself into elite status among the Major League's best hitters as he was named Tribe "Man of the Year" by the Cleveland BBWAA and finished 5th in the AL MVP voting (highest finish since R.Alomar's 4th place in 2001)... Became the 10th hitter in franchise history to hit at least .300 with 30HR & 100RBI as he finished 3rd in the American League in on-base (.408) and slugging % (.595) while his combined on-base+slugging % (OPS of 1.003) ranked 2nd behind Alex Rodriguez' 1.031 (ahead of Oritz/1.001 & M. Ramirez/.982)...Again drove in 106 runs as a DH, which was 2nd in the AL behind David Ortiz' 141 and is tied for the 2nd highest season ever by an Indians DH with his 2004 campaign (Andre Thornton still holds the club record w/109 in 1982)...His 32HR as a DH tied Ellis Burks' 2002 single-season club mark...Finished in the Top 10 in several other department among AL hitters, including: batting average (.305, 9th), doubles (42, T5th), walks (79, 7th), RBI ratio (4.5 per at bat, 4th), HR ratio (14.7 per at bat, 7th), extra base hits (75, 8th), RISP average (.333, 10th), average vs. RHP (.321, 7th) and clean-up slugging % (.589, 3rd behind Ramirez/Guerrero)...Homered in a career-high 6 straight games from Sept. 18-24, the 2nd longest streak in the history of the franchise behind Jim Thome's 7 straight in 2002 and the longest in MLB in 2005...The streak was the longest in the big leagues since Barry Bonds in 2004 and the longest in the AL since Thome's club record...At one point during the stretch he had a string of 10 straight hits that went for extra bases... From June 1 thru the end of the season he hit .321 (106-330) with 32 2B, 28 HR & 88 RBI in 92 games...Was hit in the face on July 16 by Chicago-AL's Mark Buehrle in the 1st inning and was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 26 (retro to 7/17) due to post-concussive symptoms...Was activated from the DL on August 4 and following his activation he hit .296 (59-199) with 15 HR & 45 RBI in 54 games...Was on fire to end the season, hitting .351 (20-57) from Sept. 17 thru the end of the season with 6 2B, 8 HR & 20 RBI in 15 games and at one point HR'd in 6 straight games (see above) and at one point from Sept. 18-24 had 10 straight hits go for extra bases (3 2B, 7HR)...Overall he hit .270 (27-100) in September with 4 2B, 11HR & 26 RBI in 29 games...Was named AL player of the week for the 2nd time in 2005, Sept. 19-25 (10-26, 6HR, 16RBI, 7G)...From August 25th on he had 13 HR in 30 games (29RBI)...Reached base safely in 74 of his last 81 games...Hit .348 (56-161) w/10HR & 40RBI in the #3 hole (44 starts) in the order and .283 (91-321) with 23 HR & 67 RBI in the #4 hole in the order (86 starts)...Hit .339 (20-59) on the first pitch...His .311 (47-151) average from the 6th inning on was the 15th best average in the AL...Signed a long-term contract on April 13 thru the 2007 season (2008 club option)...Hit .306 (71-232) with runners on base (18HR, 93RBI) and .328 (20-61) w/RISP-2outs...Spent the off-season in Cleveland.
2004
Enjoyed a breakout offensive season, compiling one of the finest offensive seasons in the history of the organization by a designated hitter...Finished 2nd to Boston's David Ortiz in RBI by a DH (109 to 106) as his 106RBI as a DH were the 2nd most in franchise history behind Andre Thornton's 109 in 1982...Overall for the year his 109RBI were 9th among all American League hitters and after the season he received a 9th place vote on the AL MVP ballot and was runner-up to Ortiz in the AL DH Award balloting (Edgar Martinez Award).
