LOS ANGELE**S ¨C** The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer and optioned left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, Los Angeles placed left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw on the 60-day injured list.
Sauer, 26, was a non-roster invitee, making four appearances and striking out eight batters in 7.2 innings. He made his Major League debut in 2024 as a member of the Kansas City Royals and went 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA in 14 games. In seven minor league seasons, he is 22-27 with a 4.37 ERA and 449 strikeouts. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the second round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out Ernest Righetti High School (Ca.).
Wrobleski, 24, made four appearances for the Dodgers this Spring, going 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He fanned nine batters in 9.1 innings while boasting a 0.75 WHIP. He made his Major League debut in 2024 with a 1-2 mark and a 5.70 ERA in eight games. The southpaw was drafted by the Dodgers in the 11th round of the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma State University.
Kershaw, 36, will begin the 2025 season on the injured list. In 17 seasons with the Dodgers, he is 212-94 with a 2.50 ERA. He is 32 strikeouts away from becoming the 21st person in Major League Baseball history to reach the 3,000-strikeout mark. Last season, he went 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in seven games before missing the rest of the season with a left big toe injury. The three-time Cy Young award winner was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the first round (7th overall) of the 2006 First Year Player Draft out of Highland Park High School (Tx.).
