West Sacramento, Calif. ¡ª The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Thursday night¡¯s game against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park:
- Right-handed pitcher Kumar Rocker placed on 15-day Injured List (right shoulder impingement).
- Right-handed pitcher Gerson Garabito (¡°HARE-son GAR-uh-BEE-toh¡±) recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.
Rocker, 25, has gone 1-3 with an 8.10 ERA (18 ER/20.0 IP), 16 strikeouts, and 5 walks in 5 games/starts for Texas in 2025, his second consecutive season seeing Major League action following his MLB debut in 2024. The right-hander last served as Texas¡¯ starting pitcher in the club¡¯s 5-2 defeat to the Athletics on Wednesday night in Sacramento, taking the loss after working a season-low 1.2 innings (7 H, 5 R-ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR, 63 pitches/42 strikes). In 8 career games/starts, Rocker is 1-5 with a 6.54 ERA (23 ER/31.2 IP) and .316 opponent¡¯s batting average (42-133).
Garabito, 29, will mark his 2nd stint with Texas this season (also Opening Day-April 7). He has made 2 starts for Triple-A Round Rock since he was optioned on April 8, allowing 9 earned runs over 5.1 innings (0-2, 15.19 ERA). The right-hander last appeared on April 18 at Reno, shouldering the loss as part of an 11-3 Round Rock defeat (L, 2.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R-ER, 1 BB, 3 SO, 46 pitches/30 strikes). A member of Texas¡¯ 2025 Opening Day roster, Garabito has pitched in 3 games for Texas this season ¨C all relief appearances of at least 2.0 innings ¨C and has posted no record with a 9.00 ERA (8 ER/8.0 IP). He last saw Major League action on April 7 during the Rangers¡¯ 7-0 loss to the Cubs in Chicago (3.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R-ER, 1 BB, 3 SO, 51 pitches/32 strikes).
A native of San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, Garabito made his MLB debut with the Rangers in 2024 and has totaled a 0-2 record with a 5.77 ERA (22 ER/34.1 IP) in 21 MLB appearances/2 starts. Prior to that, Garabito did not see affiliated action for three seasons while appearing in the Dominican Winter League (2023-24 for Aguilas Cibaenas), Nicaraguan Winter League (2022-23 for Leones de Le¨®n), and Venezuelan Winter League (2021-22 for Leones del Caracas). He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Kansas City in 2012 and has had minor league stints in the Kansas City (2013-19), San Francisco (2021), and Texas (2024-25) systems.
With today¡¯s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club¡¯s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
