BOSTON, MA¡ªThe Boston Red Sox today placed infielder Alex Bregman on the Paternity Leave List. To fill his spot on the active roster, the club recalled infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester.
Bregman, 31, is batting .321 (25-for-78) with seven doubles, four home runs, and 16 RBI in 19 games this season, all starts at third base. The right-handed hitter went 5-for-5 with two home runs and a double last night at Tampa Bay, recording his first career five-hit game. Selected by the Houston Astros in the first round (No. 2 overall) of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, the New Mexico native has hit .273 (1,157-for-4,235) with an .850 OPS, 704 runs scored, 272 doubles, 18 triples, 195 home runs and 679 RBI in 1,130 career games for the Astros (2016-24) and Red Sox (2025).
Sogard, 27, is batting .159 (7-for-44) in 12 games for Worcester this season, making five starts at shortstop, three at third base, two at first base, and one each at second base and right field. The switch-hitter played in 31 games for the Red Sox in 2024, his Major League debut, batting .273 (21-for-77) with four doubles and eight RBI, while making 11 starts at second base, and six each at shortstop and third base. Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native was acquired by Boston in a four-player trade on February 17, 2021.
