BOSTON, MA¡ªThe Boston Red Sox today reinstated right-handed pitcher Brayan Bello from the 15-Day Injured List. To make room, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Zack Kelly to Triple-A Worcester following yesterday¡¯s game against the Chicago White Sox.
Bello, 25, will start tonight against the Seattle Mariners. The right-hander made four rehab starts with Triple-A Worcester (three) and Double-A Portland (one), pitching 14.0 innings with 21 strikeouts and four walks. Originally signed by Boston as an international free agent on July 2, 2017, the Dominican Republic native has gone 28-27 with a 4.42 ERA (185 ER/376.2 IP) and 340 strikeouts in 71 career games (69 starts), all with the Red Sox (2022-24).
Kelly, 30, has made seven appearances this season, posting a 9.00 ERA (10 ER/10.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Oakland Athletics in 2017, the Virginia native owns a 4.52 ERA (45 ER/89.2 IP) with 89 strikeouts in 77 career games (three starts), all with Boston (2022-25).
