Twins finalize Major League coaching staff
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN 每 The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have named Trevor Amicone as assistant hitting coach, Ramon Borrego as first base/infield coach and Rayden Sierra as a hitting coach for the 2025 season.
Amicone recently completed his second season as hitting coach for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the New York Yankees organization. During the 2024 regular season, Amicone led the RailRiders to a second-place finish in the International League in runs scored (854), OPS (.796) and on-base percentage (.358), while the club ranked third among IL teams in fewest strikeouts (1,227), fourth in batting average (.262) and slugging percentage (.438), fifth in total bases (2,118) and sixth in hits (1,267). The Sandy, Utah native began his professional coaching career as a roving hitting coach in the Yankees minor league system in 2020, before spending most of 2021 with both Yankees Dominican Summer League teams. Prior to joining the Yankees organization, Amicone was an assistant coach at Utah Tech University (then Dixie State University) in St. George, Utah (2017-19). He played prep ball at Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah and went on to play collegiately at Weber State University, where he also earned his degree in communications.
Borrego joins Minnesota*s major league coaching staff for the first time after 21 seasons as a coach or manager in the Twins organization. He managed for 14 seasons in the Twins* system, spending the last four with Double-A Wichita, leading the Wind Surge to a record of 269-263 and back-to-back first-place finishes in 2021 and *22. Prior to Wichita, the 2021 Double-A Central Manager of the Year led Double-A Pensacola (2019), High-A Fort Myers (2018), the GCL Twins (2011-17) and the DSL Twins (2009). The Maracay, Venezuela native was a coach at the Twins* Venezuelan Academy from 2004-08 and played in the Twins organization from 1996-2002. In addition to his time with the Twins, Borrego also served as bench coach for Team Venezuela at the WBSC Baseball Americas Olympic Qualifier in 2021 and was the third base coach for Venezuela in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
Sierra enters his fifth season in the Twins organization and first as a coach at the major league level. The Boca Chica, Dominican Republic native spent the 2024 season as Minnesota*s minor league assistant hitting coordinator after serving three seasons as hitting coach for Low-A Fort Myers (2021-23) and one campaign as the organization*s minor league assistant hitting and development coach (2021). Prior to joining the Twins, Sierra was a hitting and outfield coach at Florida SouthWestern State College in Fort Myers in 2021 and a coach at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee in 2020. He played collegiately at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, and spent one season in the professional ranks with the Schaumburg Boomers of the independent Frontier League.
Additionally, Hank Conger will transition from first base coach to assistant bench coach and continue working with the catchers.
