CHICAGO ¨C Prior to today¡¯s series finale vs. the Athletics, the Chicago White Sox made the following four roster moves:
- Selected Contract from Class AAA Charlotte (1): C Edgar Quero (¡°CARE-oh¡±);
- Reinstated From 10-Day Injured List (1): OF Andrew Benintendi;
- Designated for Assignment (1): C Omar Narv¨¢ez;
- Optioned to Charlotte (1): OF Greg Jones.
Quero, 22, is rated by MLB.com as the No. 6 prospect in the White Sox organization and No. 62 overall in baseball and by Baseball America as the Best Defensive Catcher in the system. He is batting .333/.444/.412 (17-51) with one home run, four RBI, nine runs scored and 11 walks in 15 games with Charlotte this season.
Quero a 5-foot-11, 205-pound switch-hitter, was named by Baseball America as the White Sox Minor League Player of the Year in 2024 after hitting .280/.366/.463 (98-350) with 16 home runs and 70 RBI in 98 games with Class AA Birmingham and Charlotte. He is a career .282/.399/.451 (367-1,303) hitter with 79 doubles, 45 homers, 236 RBI, 211 runs scored and 223 walks in 364 games over five minor-league seasons.
Quero was acquired by the White Sox from Los Angeles-AL on July 26, 2023, with left-handed pitcher Ky Bush in exchange for right-handers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo L¨®pez. He originally was signed by the Angels as an international free agent on February 26, 2021.
Quero, who has no major-league experience, will wear uniform No. 7.
Benintendi, 31, was placed on the injured list on April 9 (retroactive to April 7) with a left adductor strain. He is hitting .290/.333/.464 (9-31) with two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored over nine games this season, his third with the White Sox.
Narv¨¢ez, 33, is 2-7 (.286) with three walks and two RBI in four games with the White Sox this season after his contract was selected from Birmingham on April 10.
Jones, 27, has appeared in three games over two stints with the Sox in 2025, going 0-2 with one stolen base.
The White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
