Guardians sign RHP Jakob Junis
CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Guardians announced today the signing of free agent RHP Jakob Junis to a Major League contract for the 2025 season.
Junis, 32, split the 2024 season between Milwaukee and Cincinnati, posting a 1.8 bWAR along with a 4-0 with a 2.69 ERA in 24 games/6 starts (67.0IP, 49H, 20ER, 8BB, 51SO, .203AVG) despite spending two and a half months on the IL (R shoulder impingement) following his first start as a Brewer on April 2. Following his July 30 acquisition by the Reds, he posted a September ERA of 1.82 in 5 games/4 starts for the Reds (5ER/24.2IP/12H/18K/.143avg) to finish out the season.
He owns a career mark of 42-45 with a 4.48 ERA in 192 games/116 starts (388ER/780.1IP) with the Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, Brewers, and Reds. He posted a 3.87 ERA in 2023 with the Giants across 40 games/4 starts while logging 86.0IP with a career-high 10.0 SO per 9.0 IP (96SO/86IP).
To allow room for Junis on the 40-man roster, the Guardians today placed LHP Sam Hentges on the 60-day Injured List. Junis has reported to camp and will work out with the club tomorrow.
