Mets re-sign Pete Alonso
FLUSHING, N.Y., February 12, 2025 ¨C The New York Mets today announced the team has re-signed first baseman Pete Alonso to a two-year contract with a player opt out after the 2025 season.
Alonso, 30, ranks third in franchise history with 226 homers, behind David Wright (242) and Darryl Strawberry (252). Since Alonso¡¯s debut in 2019, only Aaron Judge has hit more home runs (232). Alonso leads the majors with 586 RBI since his debut.

Alonso has been named to the All-Star team in four of his six seasons with the Mets. Alonso reached the 30-home run mark for the fifth time in his career in 2024 becoming the first player in team history to have five seasons with 30 or more homers.
¡°Pete is a great Met and one of the league¡¯s elite power threats,¡± Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns said. ¡°I¡¯m thrilled that we reached an agreement, and I¡¯m looking forward to watching Pete help anchor our lineup.¡±
Alonso¡¯s 226 homers are the third-most in MLB history through a player¡¯s first six seasons, trailing only Ralph Kiner (257) and Albert Pujols (250).
Last year Alonso was one of four players in the majors to play in 162 games. He joined F¨¦lix Mil¨¢n (1975) as the only player in team history to play in every game during the year. Alonso recorded a career-high 31 doubles, 34 home runs and 88 RBI in 2024.
He hit a dramatic three-run, go-ahead home run in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series off Milwaukee¡¯s Devin Williams last year and helped the Mets reach the NLCS for the first time since 2015. Alonso hit four homers, drove in 10 runs, walked a franchise-record 12 times and had a .999 OPS in 13 Postseason games.
Overall, he has posted a .249/.339/.514 slashline with an .854 OPS in 846 career games. His .514 SLG is third in franchise history, while his .854 OPS ranks fifth (min. 3,000 PA).
New York¡¯s second-round selection in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Florida has won the Home Run Derby twice (2019 and 2021).
Alonso established a major league rookie record with 53 homers in 2019 on his way to the Jackie Robinson National League Rookie of the Year Award.
He was tied for the major league lead with 131 RBI in 2022, including a major league record 27 game-winning RBI.
