Celebrating National Women and Girls in Sports Day
In honor of National Women and Girls in Sports Day, female leaders from the Phillies front office, along with the Phillies Ballgirls and special guests, hosted two special events sponsored by LF Driscoll to get girls in the game.
The events took place on Monday, February 4, and kicked off at Stonehurst Elementary School in Upper Darby, where Phillies front office volunteers and Ballgirls led an interactive softball clinic for 120 first and second graders, teaching them how to hit, pitch, run and more.
Later that evening, female leaders from the Phillies front office and LF Driscoll shared their major league experiences with softball players, aged 13-18, from the teamĄŻs MLB Urban Youth Academy and Nike RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) program during an informal panel discussion in the media room at Citizens Bank Park. Speakers included PhilliesĄŻ Bonnie Clark, Vice President, Communications and Community Initiatives; Colleen Gall, Manager, Event Operations; Corinne Landrey, Director, Baseball Operations; Carolyn Saveri, Director, Brand Marketing; and LF Driscoll Project Manager Sarah Dollarton.
National Girls & Women in Sports Day began in 1987 in Washington, D.C. to recognize and celebrate womenĄŻs sports. The day united premiere organizations and elite female athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports.
