Spring Training Trek Begins with Phillies Truck Day Presented by Citizens
Baseball is almost here! This morning, thousands of items needed for Phillies spring training in Clearwater, Fla. were packed onto three giant 28-foot trailers as part of Phillies Truck Day presented by Citizens.
The truck arrived at 6 a.m., and Phillies front office staff (with some help from the Phanatic) loaded it with 10,000 paper cups;2,400 baseballs; 2,000 short-and-long sleeved shirts; 1,200 bats; 900 pairs of socks; 600 pairs of pants; 600 batting practice hats; 350 pairs of shorts; 300 batting gloves; 250 batting practice tops; 200 fleeces; 200 light jackets; 140 batting helmets; 125 leather and elastic belts; 75 pairs of assorted spike, plastic and turf shoes; 40 heavy jackets; 20 coolers; several bikes and much more.
Once the packing was complete, the truck was sent off by rally towel-waving Phillies fans and employees outside of Citizens Bank Park. Before beginning its 1,058-mile journey across eight states, the truck made one last stop at the Citizens branch on 18th and Market Streets.
The truck will arrive at BayCare Ballpark, home of Phillies spring training, on Friday, February 7 ¨C just five days before pitchers and catchers report on Wednesday, February 12.
