Phillies statement on the passing of Wilmer Reid
The Phillies mourn the loss of Wilmer Reid, who served as a scout for the club in the Philadelphia region for 13 years (2012-24).
After enjoying a playing career that spanned two seasons (1957-58) for the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro Leagues, the West Philadelphia High School graduate began a scouting career in which he also served the Kansas City Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees and Washington Nationals organizations.
Wilmer’s passion for baseball and scouting were unmatched, and with his years of experience, he was an invaluable member of the Phillies scouting department. As one of the area’s most respected and well-liked scouts, his presence at games and events will be greatly missed.
The Phillies extend their condolences to the Reid family at this difficult time.
