White Sox agree to terms on a one-year contract with pitcher Mart¨ªn P¨¦rez; designate Ron Marinaccio for assignment
CHICAGO ¨C The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with veteran left-handed pitcher Mart¨ªn P¨¦rez on a one-year, $5.0-million contract, which includes a mutual option for the 2026 season. To make room on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated right-handed pitcher Ron Marinaccio for assignment.
Under terms of the agreement, P¨¦rez will receive $3.5 million in 2025, with a $10-million mutual option for 2025 or a $1.5-million buyout.
P¨¦rez, 33, combined to go 5-6 with a 4.53 ERA (68 ER/135.0 IP) and 107 strikeouts over 26 games between Pittsburgh and San Diego in 2024. He started the season with the Pirates and was traded to the Padres on July 30 in exchange for left-hander Ronaldys Jim¨¦nez. P¨¦rez, 6-foot and 200 pounds, went 3-1 with a 3.46 ERA (20 ER/52.0 IP) and 44 strikeouts in his 10 starts with San Diego.
P¨¦rez, a native of Guanare, Venezuela, has gone 90-87 with a 4.44 ERA (778 ER/1,575.2 IP) and 1,109 strikeouts in 314 games (269 starts) over 13 seasons in the major leagues with Texas (2012-18, ¡®22-23), Minnesota (2019), Boston (2020-21), Pittsburgh (2024) and San Diego (2024).
He was selected to the American League All-Star Team in 2022 and was a World Series champion with Texas in 2023. Among active left-handed pitchers, he ranks sixth in starts, seventh in innings and tied for seventh in victories.
Marinaccio, 29, was claimed by the White Sox off waivers from the Yankees on September 23, 2024. He appeared in 16 games in relief with New York last season, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA (10 ER/23.1 IP) and 25 strikeouts.
The White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
