Diamond Project
An active community is a healthy community. It offers youth the chance to play while supporting sportsmanship and encouraging members of the community to become active as coaches, mentors, caretakers and allies.
The Diamond Project is a community investment initiative that aims to respond to the immediate shortage of baseball and softball fields, reduce the equity gap of playing conditions and resources and increase access for youth to play ball in their own communities.
Program Goals:
- Improve the quality, safety and accessibility of local baseball and softball fields and indoor training facilities
- Reduce disparity of access to diamond sports across Chicago neighborhoods
- Expand opportunities for children primarily from under-resourced communities to play baseball and softball
- Increase capacity of nonprofit community partner organizations to support and maintain green spaces in their communities
- Increase cross-sector alignment of public, private and nonprofit stakeholders
Since 2014, the Diamond Project has committed more than $10,000,000 to fund 106 capital improvement projects and support field maintenance initiatives and $1,220,000 in grants to 87 youth baseball and softball programs to support operations and equipment needs.
The Diamond Project is supported by Cubs Charities 50/50 Raffle and Cubs Authentics, the premier outlet for all MLB authenticated, game-used and autographed Cubs memorabilia.
