Jansen delivers a perfect frame vs. Braves
Kenley Jansen, who lost the job of Dodgers closer last week, pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Braves at Globe Life Field on Wednesday, entering with a 14-run lead in a game Los Angeles would go on to win, 15-3.
After taking over for starter Julio Ur¨ªas, Jansen retired Marcell Ozuna on a long fly to center field, Tyler Flowers on a popup and Ozzie Albies on a liner to first baseman Max Muncy.
¡°I was really pleased with the way he threw the baseball,¡± said manager Dave Roberts. ¡°Every inning is important. Every out is important. Also, just to get an opportunity to pitch, as he¡¯s working through delivery stuff, to see how it plays to Major League hitters, that¡¯s been beneficial to everyone. So I was just very happy with the outing.¡±
Jansen is the Dodgers¡¯ franchise leader in saves, with 312, plus 17 postseason saves in 45 October appearances. But he lost his role after experiencing a drop in velocity in late September and allowed two runs on three hits in Game 2 of the NL Division Series against the Padres, although the Dodgers hung on to win, 6-5.
