David A. Burba...resides in Gilbert, AZ with his wife, Star, and their three children: daughter, Madison and sons, Dylan and Dawson...a 1984 graduate of Kenton Ridge High School in Springfield, Ohio where he was All-District and All-State as captain of his baseball team...graduate of Ohio State University, where he earned second team All-Big Ten honors in baseball during the 1987 season...completed his degree at OSU in the winter of 1992...attended the OSU/Miami National Championship Game in Tempe, Arizona on January 3, 2003 which resulted in OSU's first national title since 1968...his uncle, Ray Hathaway, pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1945.

2005

Attended spring training as a non-roster invitee with the Astros...appeared in 18 games with triple-A Round Rock, posting a 4-3 record with a 4.58 ERA (18 ER/35.1 IP), 10 walks and 22 strikeouts...was released by Houston on June 2.

2004

Split the 2004 season between Milwaukee and San Francisco...worked the final 3.0 innings of Milwaukee's 11-5 win on April 8 at St. Louis for his second career save and first since June 8, 1991 vs. Milwaukee (with Seattle)...acquired by San Francisco from Milwaukee on Sept. 2 in exchange for minor league left-hander Josh Habel...appeared in six games for San Francisco with a 1-0 record and a 5.68 ERA (4ER/6.0IP)...allowed two runs on Sept. 19 vs. San Diego before leaving the game with separation of his left shoulder...missed the remainder of the season.

2003

Began the 2003 season with triple-A Buffalo going 1-3 with a 2.05 ERA in four starts before being released by the Indians organization on May 3...signed a minor league contract with the Brewers on May 6 and was assigned to triple-A Indianapolis...made 10 appearances (nine starts) with Indy posting a 5-4 record with a 5.33 ERA before his contract was purchased by Milwaukee on June 27...was 0-1 with a 3.53 ERA in 17 appearances/two starts with Milwaukee...did not allow any inherited runners to score (0-8).

2002

Began the 2002 season in the Texas starting rotation after signing a one-year, Major League deal with the Rangers in the offseason...with Texas, posted a 4-5 record with a 5.42 ERA in 23 games...removed from the rotation on May 28 after making 10 straight starts to begin the season...made eight more starts for Texas, going 1- 2 with a 4.57 ERA in those starts before being relegated to bullpen duty on July 17...released by Texas on July 30...signed to a minor league deal by Cleveland on Aug. 7...made one start for triple-A Akron on Aug. 9...added to the Indians Major League roster on Aug. 13...made nine relief appearances and three starts for Cleveland, going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA...in three starts was 1-0 with a 5.60 ERA...posted a 3.31 ERA in nine relief outings.

2001

His 10-10 record in 2001 masked his 6.21 ERA as Cleveland hitters averaged 6.4 runs/game for him, the fifth-highest mark in the AL...topped the double-digit mark in wins for the eighth time in his career, the last seven consecutively with 10+ wins since 1995, and collected his 100th career win on May 8 at Kansas City...removed from the starting rotation between August 6 - 21 and again from Sept. 7 thru the remainder of the year before a spot start at Toronto on Oct. 5...did not pitch from Sept. 8 - Oct. 1...tied a Major League and club record by yielding four homers in the fourth inning to the Kansas City Royals in start on June 29...marked the ninth time in the AL the feat was accomplished and the 20th overall pitcher to be tagged with the dubious feat...made first regular season relief appearance since Sept. 26, 1998 at Minnesota on July 16 at Houston...longest relief outing of his Major League career Aug. 17 vs. Anaheim tossing seven innings...on the Division Series roster against Seattle making one relief appearance in Game 3 vs. Seattle (1.0IP).

2000

Was Cleveland's most consistent starter in 2000, posting a career-best 16 wins in 32 starts...one of just six Major League pitchers to win 15 or more games in each of three seasons (Wells, Maddux, Martinez, Johnson, Sele) from 1998-2000...six-game winning streak from April 20-June 10...recorded his 1000th career strikeout on June 16 at Detroit in the fifth inning (Dean Palmer).

1999

In 1999, posted a 15-9 mark and a 4.25 ERA in 34 games started tossing 220.0 innings and striking out 174 with Cleveland...his 15 wins tied for 10th in the AL while his 220.0 innings ranked fourth and his 174 strikeouts ranked fifth to Pedro Martinez' 313...fanned a career-high 13 batters July 21 vs. Toronto...recorded his third 10+ strikeout game of the season on September 16 vs. the Yankees, the sixth of his career...did not allow a run over four innings in his Game 3 start at Boston in the Division Series...left his first career postseason start with a strain of the flexor pronator muscle/tendon in his right forearm and did not pitch the rest of the series.

1998

Acquired by Cleveland one day before the season opener in 1998 and solidified the starting rotation...topped the 200.0 inning plateau for the first time in his professional career and won a career-best 15 games...acquired by the Indians in exchange for infielder Sean Casey following Spring Training on March 30...allowed a career-high four homers at the Yankees on Sept. 22...pitched in relief in the postseason, compiling a combined mark of 2-0 with a 3.97 ERA in four outings...won Game 2 of the Division Series vs. Boston and Game 2 of the ALCS at New York...despite pitching in relief he led the team with two wins while his 11.1 IP were third on the entire staff in the playoffs.

1997

In 1997 won his last five starts and seven of his last nine decisions to finish 11-10 with a 4.73 ERA with two complete games in 30 games with Cincinnati...was on the disabled list from Aug. 7-26 with back spasms...after coming off the DL, he went 5-0 with a 2.84 ERA in his last six games, including 5-0 with a 2.67 ERA in five starts in September...threw two complete games including a three-hitter in a 9-1 victory vs. Milwaukee on July 1...in the 6-1 victory at Pittsburgh on April 18, he tied his career high with 11 strikeouts.

1996

Had first full season as a starter in 1996, got off to a rough start after dropping eight decisions (was supported with just 2.25 runs per game in the eight losses) over his first 14 starts with Cincinnati...rebounded after 0-8 start to go 11-5 with a 3.35 ERA after June 15...struck out career-high 11 batters on April 15 at Chicago (NL)...belted first Major League home run July 14 vs. the Pirates (off Paul Wagner, third inning, solo).

1995

Began the 1995 season as a member of the San Francisco Giants, posting a 4-2 record with a 4.91 ERA in 38 games out of the bullpen... acquired by the Reds along with right-hander Mark Portugal and outfielder Darren Lewis on July 21, in a trade which sent the Giants outfielder Deion Sanders and four minor leaguers (RHP John Roper, RHP Scott Service, 1B Dave McCarty and LHP Ricky Pickett)... compiled a 0.96 ERA in first four appearances out of the Reds' bullpen before joining the starting rotation... tossed a two-hitter, for the first complete game and shutout of his Major League career on Aug. 19 vs. Houston at Riverfront Stadium...in the postseason, he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three relief outings...picked up the victory at Los Angeles in Game 2 of the Division Series by tossing a scoreless inning...was his first-ever postseason win.

1994

In 1994, appeared in 57 games out of the Giants bullpen, ranking him fourth among NL relievers...allowed left-handers only a .178 batting average (18-101)...struck out 84 batters in his last 74.0 innings (10.2 K's per 9.0 IP).

1993

Posted a 7-2 mark with a 3.89 ERA in 49 outings in 1993...made five starts for the Giants, going 3-1 with a 5.32 ERA...had career-high eight straight wins from May 17-Aug. 9...longest winning streak by a Giant since 1989 ...from May 13 - Sept. 24, posted a 2.92 ERA in 40 appearances, lowering ERA from 5.76 to 3.71...ranked third on the club in wins.

1992

Began the 1992 season as a member of the Giants' starting rotation... returned to starting rotation on May 17, after making four relief appearances...following a second stint in the bullpen, optioned to triple-A Phoenix on June 18...while with the Firebirds, made 13 starts, posting a 5-5 record with a 4.72 ERA in 74.1 innings of work...earned recall on Aug. 26, making four starts and four relief appearances to finish the season with a 2-7 record and 4.97 ERA.

1991

Joined the San Francisco Giants on Dec. 11, 1991, along with Bill Swift and Mike Jackson, in a trade which sent the Mariners Kevin Mitchell and Mike Remlinger.

1990

Began the season at triple-A Calgary in 1990, winning six straight games from June 20-27...earned his first trip to the Majors on September 4, after being recalled by the Mariners...made his Major League debut Sept. 8 at Boston...spent most of the 1991 season with triple-A Calgary, posting a 6-4 record with a 3.53 ERA in 71.1 innings of work in 23 games, nine starts... had four separate stints with the Mariners, being recalled from Calgary for the first time on April 12...notched his first Major League save June 8 vs. Milwaukee...made first Major League start but suffered a 4-0 defeat vs. the Chicago White Sox on June 25...earned first win as a Major Leaguer in relief on Sept. 15 vs. Kansas City.

1989

Spent 1989 season at double-A Williamsport, sporting an 11-7 record with a 3.16 ERA in 25 games, 25 starts...led Williamsport in wins (11), starts (25), complete games (five), innings pitched (156.2) and strikeouts (89)...his 3.16 ERA ranked 10th in the Eastern League...tossed a one-hitter May 29 vs. Reading.

1988

Spent entire 1988 campaign at single-A San Bernardino, posting a 5-7 record with a 2.68 ERA in 20 games, 20 starts...struck out 102 batters in 114.0 innings pitched.

1987

Began pro career with single-A Bellingham in 1987, where he was 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA in five starts...earned a promotion to single-A Salinas on July 5, where he went 1-6 with a 4.61 ERA in nine starts.
