Was acquired from the Diamondbacks on July 31 along with outfielder Steve Finley in exchange for catcher Koyie Hill, left-handed pitcher Bill Murphy and outfielder Reggie Abercrombie...was hitting .255 with 10 RBIs in 36 games for Arizona at the time he was acquired...was on the disabled list from June 9-July 14 with a lower back strain...in his first four games back, went 7-for-12...batted .406 (13-for-32) against left-handed pitchers...threw out 31 percent (12 of 39) runners attempting to steal against him, but just four of 19 after joining the Dodgers...Los Angeles was 19-14 when he started behind the plate.

Hit his 1st Major League home run, a pinch-hit shot off Julio Machado, on Aug. 1 at Milwaukee...it is the only pinch-hit home run of his career.
Hit 2 inside-the-park home runs (Aug. 22 vs. Texas and Sept. 27 vs. California) in little more than a month...became the 1st Royal since Jorge Orta in 1986 to hit 2 inside-the-park homers in the same season.
1990
Started the season with Memphis (AA) and hit .267 with 2 home runs and 61 RBI in 115 games.
Contract was purchased by Kansas City from Memphis on Sept. 16...made his Major League debut on Sept. 18 at Minnesota...his 1st hit and RBI came that night off Scott Erickson.

Mayne was selected by the Royals in the 1st round (13th overall) of the 1989 June Free Agent Draft...was the 3rd catcher and 1st collegiate catcher selected in the draft...was also the 2nd catcher taken in the 1st round in Royals history (Rex Goodson - 1970).
Began his professional career at Baseball City in the Florida State League in 1989...hit .542 in 7 games when he suffered a lower back strain...went on the Disabled List on July 24 and missed the remainder of the season.
