Has two children: Cory (12/20/91) and Haley (9/1/94)...Graduated from Bishop Ward (KS) High School where he starred in baseball...Named All-Kansas both his junior and senior years...Attended Kansas City CC and Louisiana Tech University...Was named Seattle Post-Intelligencer Sports Star of the Year in February 1999...His father, Diego, compiled a 91-111 record as a pitcher in a 15-year major league career and was the only player to play for both the Seattle Pilots (1969) and the Mariners (1977)...Diego was the Opening Night starter for the Pilots in 1969 and in the Kingdome in the first game in Mariners history...Also played with Oakland, Kansas City, Washington, St. Louis and Boston...Diego won the AL ERA title with a 2.56 mark in 1970 with Oakland...David originally signed with the Orioles after being the club's 18th-round pick in the 1987 First Year Player Draft...Signed by Ray Crone...Returned to Baltimore in January to take part in Orioles Fanfest...In 2001, David purchased tickets for Orioles games that were donated to charitable, non-profit groups.
2003
Began the season on the DL with a fractured thumb, but returned to hit a sizzling .441 in his first 10 games ... Went back on the DL on April 24 with a strained right hamstring ... Shortly after returning to action, Segui clubbed three home runs in a five-game stretch from May 7-11 ... Played his final game of the season on July 25 before undergoing surgery to repair a tendon in his left wrist.
2002
For the 2nd straight year, spent most of the season on the disabled list...Played in only 26 games and missed the last 122 games of the Orioles schedule...Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 18...Underwent surgery on May 21 in Baltimore to repair torn triangular firbrocartilage complex (TFCC) and an injury to the ECU tendon and sheath in his left hand...Was moved to the 60-day DL on June 15...Went 3-for-5 on Opening Day vs. New York but went just 1-for-23 over the next 6 games...Went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI on April 11 vs. Tampa Bay, matching his career-high for hits in a game...That started a stretch in which he batted .410 (18-44) with 10 RBI and hit safely in 10 of 13 games...Missed 3 games after injuring his left wrist when his hand was stepped on sliding into home on April 26 at Kansas City...Returned and went 3-for-11 in 3 games, getting a double, home run and 3 RBI on May 2 vs. Kansas City in the last game before being sidelined for 5 more games.

Did not commit an error in 617 chances in 73 games at first base, stretching his errorless streak at the position to 74 games dating to 8/7/99. Appeared in his 1,000th game at first base on July 16 at San Francisco to qualify as the all-time fielding percentage leader at that position...Finished the season as the all-time leader with a .996053 mark (8616 total chances, 34 errors). Was traded from Rangers to Indians on July 28...Was traded from Toronto to Texas in spring training on March 16 in 3-team deal with Montreal, with 1B Lee Stevens going from Rangers to Expos and IF Brad Fullmer from Expos to Blue Jays. Split the season between Montreal Expos and New York Mets...Began the season in New York, before being traded to Montreal on 6/8...Tripled in his first at-bat with Montreal...Named Expos Player of the Month for June and July...Finished the season by being named as the Expos' Player of the Year by the local chapter of the BBWAA...Finished 7th in the NL with a .309 average and finished 8th as the toughest to strikeout (once per 10.9 at-bats)...Hit in 18 straight games 7/20-8/8 (.373, 28-for-75), the 5th longest hitting streak in the NL that season...Hit a 3-run home run off Jason Isringhausen on first pitch he saw at Shea Stadium after being traded from the Mets...Hit first career grand slam on 9/5 off Jose Bautista at San Francisco...Led NL switch-hitters in average...Was second among NL first basemen with a .997 fielding percentage...Hit in 79 of 97 games with the Expos.

Led all NL first baseman with a .996 fielding percentage...Hit in 10 straight games 4/14-26...Had 5 home runs and 10 RBI in a 12-game span, 5/2 through 5/14...Injured his right groin on 6/19 at Florida and was placed on the disabled list 6/20...Was activated on 7/5 and played the outfield on 7/6 at SF, his first outfield start since 8/24/92 vs. California...Hit .293 (12-41) with RISP and two outs...Played for Mazatlan of the Mexican Winter League.
